Dear Families, Teachers and Friends,
A Statement from Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond
April 21, 2021
Racism is a sin that needs to be cleansed from our hearts. George Floyd’s
death, the events across the country that followed, and the subsequent trial
have exposed deep wounds in our country caused by racism and the urgent
need for racial healing and reconciliation. As Catholic Christians we must
always stand with the vulnerable and, in a particular way, support those who
have been historically oppressed.
Events such as these serve as a reminder of our call as Catholics to seek
justice and work constantly for a greater respect for all human life from
conception to natural death regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin,
background, or faith.
In our own archdiocese, we are deeply aware of the need for racial equity
and justice. I have encountered many Black Catholics who have told me of
their painful experiences of being followed in stores, pulled over in their cars
for no reason, and treated in ways that have been hurtful and demeaning
because of the color of their skin. Most of these stories go untold but leave
deep wounds and hurt.
Our shared humanity and our belief in the values of Jesus compel us to
address these issues, which call us to a greater respect for the sacredness of
all human life. As disciples of Christ, we must work peacefully to, “build a
community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life
and dignity of all people,” as we pray each week in “Our Family Prayer”.
Let us recommit ourselves to prayerfully, courageously, and lovingly face
these issues that divide us so that we may be instruments of God to bring
peace, justice, and healing to those who have been hurt and to our society.
Let us recall what God said through the prophet Micah (6:8), “You have
been told what is good and what the Lord requires of you: do justice, love
mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
Please reflect on Archbishop Aymond’s words and strive to do
as Christ commanded – love one another as He has loved us.
Yours in Christ – Roy Delaney

!!! UGRENT SPRING DISCOUNT CARD FUNDRAISER !!! URGENT
The PTC has asked me to remind you to turn in either your un-sold discount cards or the
cash for cards sold. Each family was provided 6 cards, each at a value of $10 per card ($60
total). The PTC reports that 91 families have yet to turn in their cards or cash (that is a value
of $5,460). The PTC needs to reconcile with the fundraising company so please turn in your
cards or money on Monday, April 26. We don't want to lose what we have gained in
fundraising by having to cover the loss of what is not turned in. Invoices will go out after
Monday for those not returned/turned in. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

CHURCH STATUE RESTORATION NEEDS OUR SUPPORT
HELP THE CITY OF SLIDELL PLAN FOR THE FUTURE
During Mayor Greg Cromer’s visit to the school on Thursday,
he passed out some coloring sheets that are being used by
the city to solicit input from our youngest citizens. One sheet
is titled “Draw a great park!” and the other “Draw a great
neighborhood!” The two sheets are attached for use by our
students to complete. Students are encouraged to send
their drawings/ideas to city hall at [email protected].
Who knows, maybe something one of our students draws ends
up incorporated into the city’s future plans. Don’t forget to list
the student’s full name and age on the sheet.
Our Lady of Lourdes Church recently began a
restoration project to get the statues in the Church
Nave to look new again. The statues being restored
are those of Saint Bernadette, Mary (Our Lady of
Lourdes), the Good Shepherd, a smaller statue of Mary
and the Sacred Heart. The picture to the left shows
that the statues as they appear with a new undercoat
applied. The total cost of the restoration is $9,000.
Fr. Paysse has asked the children and our staff to
consider bringing in and donating $1.00 toward the
project. Let us pray that once restored, the statues of
St. Bernadette and Our Lady can continue to inspire
our students, staff and parishioners for years to come.
Please send in your $1.00 donation by Friday, April 30,
2021.

FROM MRS. DUNCAN
Some important things to remember when ordering uniforms for the 2021-2022
School Time in Mandeville is our sole proprietor of all school uniforms. Some boys still wear pants
and shorts purchased from somewhere other than School Time. In order to stay “uniform” these
items will not be permitted next year.
Girl’s jumpers and skirts must fit properly. They may not be any shorter than 3 inches above the
knee. Order uniforms with plenty of room to grow. If your child’s skirt or jumper is not able to be
lengthened you may need to purchase a new one mid-year.
If you have any questions regarding uniforms please call the school office before you make your
purchase and we will be glad to help.
