2 Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership
Historic St. Andrews Waterfront
Partnership is committed to envi-
ronmental protection, sustainability
and waste prevention. As a water-
front community, protection of our
water ways is very important.
To kick off these efforts, Lucky’s
Market has partnered with us to
help fund some initial projects to
encourage reduced waste.
Lucky’s Market will host its Impact
Day, April 10, in conjunction with
Keep America Beautiful Month, and
donate 10 percent of their sales from
that day to Historic St. Andrews
Waterfront Partnership to help fund
and promote environmental
sustainability and waste prevention
in our community as well as at the
St. Andrews Farmer’s Market.
We will offer our market vendors
paper bags to use in place of plastic
bags.
We will also offer our market
shoppers reusable canvas shopping
bags to help reduce waste. In addi-
tion, we plan to hold educational
workshops and distribute informa-
tive brochures about environmental
sustainability, waste prevention, and
preservation and protection of our
bays and water ways.
We would like to thank Lucky’s Mar-
ket for their support!

Miss Lillian’s 1937 shopping list
provides rare insight
3
In 1937, Miss Lillian West writes a
letter to Eleanor Roosevelt asking her
to support a plan she has in mind.
When Miss Lillian receives a
response on official White House
stationary, being the frugal and
practical Depression era community
leader that she is, she recycles the
White House envelope for use as her
shopping list! Thanks to this artifact,
we know what Miss Lillian ate.
Things like this just bring her to life
and provide us with a rare insight
into her personality.
If you would like to learn more about
this iconic trailblazer and her impact
on the history of St. Andrews, stop
by the Panama City Publishing
Museum and let us tell you more
about her. Museum hours are Tues-
day—Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Florida Humanities Council an-
nounced this week that Historic St.
Andrews has been selected for the
Florida Humanities Council’s Florida
Stories Walking Tours app program.
Florida Stories, a walking tour app,
supports the creation of cultural, his-
torical, and architectural walking
tours for communities across the
state of Florida.
The Florida Stories app allows users
to learn about the history of some of
Florida’s most unique towns at their
own pace and on their own schedule.
Florida Stories is designed to:
• explore the history and heritage of
Florida
• increase knowledge about and ap-
preciation of local communities
• connect small communities on a
statewide platform
• create an immersive humanities
program that is both fun and educa-
tional
• create sustainable and walkable
cultural tourism products
• build collaboration between com-
munity partners
Historic St. Andrews will join several
other Florida towns including St. Au-
gustine, Pensacola, Key West, Tam-
pa’s Ybor City, Tallahassee, Tarpon
Springs, and others that are already
in the program.
The Historic St. Andrews Waterfront
Partnership’s Museum Operations
and Procedures Committee, which
submitted the application earlier this
month, developed partnerships with
the Bay County Library Local Histo-
ry Room, Beach TV, Panama City
and Panama City Beach Visitor
Maps, and the Panama City News
Herald who all are providing in-kind
assistance to the project.
Support letters from the Historical
Society of Bay County, the St. An-
drews Independent Business Alli-
ance, and Com. Mike Nichols added
to the application’s strength.
The project will be completed and a
launch celebration held at the Pana-
ma City Publishing Company Muse-
um in September 2018.
