Congratulations to our 2021
Swimming Age Champions!
From the Principal’s Desk …..
Welcome to Week 3
What an ‘action packed’ and great start to the term we
have had. It has been a privilege to be able to spend
time in classrooms observing some of the great learning
happening. I have also enjoyed visits from students who
have had the chance to bring some of their outstanding
work up to the office for me to see.
Students are well and truly into their units and are getting
back into the swing of school and classroom routines.
Swimming Carnival
Last Friday, Wandoan SS students participated in their
annual swimming carnival. A great day was had with
many long standing records being broken. I was
impressed to see some great sportsmanship, endurance
and resilience displayed by students, even when things
became a little tough. Juandah, however, in the end, was
too strong for Cherwondah and Cooringa, winning
champion house of the carnival.
I also need to add a congratulations to the parents and
students, who participated in the combined relay. Even
though the teachers fought valiantly, the parents were far
too strong, with a substantial victory in the end. The
teachers and students I am sure, will come back stronger
in the athletics carnival. 1-0 to the parents.
A big thank you needs to go the Miss Irwin, for the
countless hours spent in organising, preparing and
running the carnival. A great day was had by all.
PBL Team
PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning. We
would like to invite any interested parents to be a part of
our team. The PBL team meets every second Monday at
3:15pm in the library and would appreciate some
parent/guardian insight. The next meeting will be held on
Monday the 22nd of February.
P&C
The Wandoan State School Parents and Citizen’s
association is a small but very active committee, that
supports all students and families in giving great
experiences and improving learning outcomes for our
students.
The P&C also makes substantial financial contributions to
the school and community. i.e. reducing costs for camps,
contributing to improving facilities and events. The P&C had
their first meeting of the year on Monday evening, the 8th of
February. In the coming weeks, they will hold their Annual
General Meeting. All parents and community members are
welcome and encouraged to attend.
Meet Greet ‘N’ Eat
This Thursday the 11th of February, we will be opening our
school grounds and classrooms to parents and families.
This is an opportunity for parents, and staff to engage with
one another, to support our student’s education.
The evening will commence at 4:30pm and each classroom
will be opened at staggered intervals, to give parents with
more than one child at school, the chance to see each
classroom and hear from their child’s teacher. Following the
classroom visits, there will be a short address from myself
and then ‘trivia-teering’ from 6pm. There will also be a free
BBQ dinner for all attending.
Student leader induction
Next Wednesday morning (17th Feb), Wandoan SS will be
formally inducting our 2021 student councillors and leaders.
The Western Downs Regional Council Mayor, Paul
McVeigh, will address our students and councillors from
around the region will be in attendance. The induction will
be followed by a celebration morning tea for those students
and their families. We are looking forward to a great
morning.
Attendance
This Thursday, five students will be
having a special morning tea with the
Principal, as a reward for 100%
attendance so far this year. Students
with 100% attendance go into a draw
each fortnight, for the chance to enjoy
this morning tea. Well done to this
fortnight’s students. Please continue
to ensure your child attends school as
regularly as possible. This week our
attendance is at 90.3%.

2021 Sporting Information
Wandoan State School Sport:
Please read the weekly newsletter for any sporting updates and upcoming trial dates.
Nominations will be taken from students at school and a permission note will be sent
home. Permission notes need to be returned by the due date or the nomination will
not be accepted.
Once school permission notes are handed in, students will be given an M&D Trial
Permission Form that will need to be filled out and taken to the trial. If you do not
take this form to the trial, you will not be considered.
Carnival assistance (timekeeping, coaching, and managing) will be required at all
carnivals throughout the year.
When participating in any school sport, students need to maintain high behaviour and
sportsmanship standards as they are representing our school. If behaviour/
sportsmanship becomes an issue, students will not be able to attend future sporting
events.
Miles & District Sport:
PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS ARE ADVISED THAT, UNLESS LEVIES ARE PAID IN FULL OR
A FORMAL PAYMENT PLAN CREATED AND ADHERED TO, THAT STUDENTS WILL
NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REPRESENTATIVE SPORT.
All team trials will be held as a selection carnival for 10-12 years only. Schools will
nominate individual students, not teams. At the carnival, the students will be placed
in randomised groups for skills and drills before playing in mixed teams for selection.
Individual sports will still be run as a 9-15 years carnival.
District sports will not be offered if a coach/manager cannot be sourced.
M&D Forms – if your child is selected in an M&D team, the form is to be handed to the
Wandoan State School office for Principal approval. The form is then forwarded to
the M&D Executive School (Miles State High School). Payment of the M&D levy and
uniforms is to be made to the MSHS via direct deposit. Cash payment will not be
accepted.
M&D uniforms are delivered to students either via the school office or handed to your
child at their training session.
When attending M&D trials, students need to maintain high behaviour and
sportsmanship standards as they are representing our school. If behaviour/
sportsmanship becomes an issue, students will not be able to attend future trials.
Students are responsible for communicating with their teachers to catch up on any
missed work whilst away at trials.
South West Sport:
South West forms are to be returned to Wandoan State School office for Principal
approval. The forms are then forwarded to the manager of the South West team.
Levy and uniform payments are made via direct deposit to the Manager’s School
as per the selection paperwork.
When attending SW trials, students need to maintain high behaviour and
sportsmanship standards as they are representing our school. If behaviour/
sportsmanship becomes an issue, students will not be able to attend future trials.
Students are responsible for communicating with their teachers to catch up on any
missed work whilst away at trials.
2021 Sporting Information continued…………..
Within the Year 1/2 class, one student is chosen every Friday by
myself to take home our class teddy 'Brendan the Bear'.
The student that is chosen to take Brendan home for the
weekend has displayed our school and classroom expectations
throughout the week and has been a model students for his/
her peers. Two students so far have had the opportunity to take
Brendan home and they have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Curriculum
This term in English we will be listening, reading and viewing a range
of written picture books. They will be retelling events from familiar stories and
responding to imaginative stories by making connections to their personal
experiences. So far we have enjoyed reading different imaginative texts in class and
investigating the story as a whole class.
In Maths this term, the Year 1/2s will be focusing on the mathematical
topics of time, number and place value, units of measurement and chance and data.
There will be a number of opportunities for students to show their knowledge and
understanding by completing a range of fun and exciting activities.
I am looking forward to having an enjoyable and stimulating year with all the students
in the Year 1/2 class and we cannot wait to share with you our journey.

TUCKSHOP ROSTER – Term 1
Volunteers are an important part of our tuckshop. It is a great place to catch up
with other parents and contribute to our school. Without the help of our
