The Voice of Virginia Baptist Transformational Discipleship "The Church's Role in a Challenging Culture" Matthew 9:35-36 Blessings to you Virginia Baptists! Grace, Mercy and Peace to each of you from God our Father. It is with great challenge that I greet you. We left Chesapeake this past May on fire from a most blessed Annual Session, while empowered to carry out our missional roles in this challenging culture. We are now faced with more Trump-era politics, an opiod crisis which is only a crisis because of who it’s affecting. Then there’s the challenge of picking up the broken pieces of Hurricane Dorian. I encourage each of you across this Commonwealth to meet us in Charlottesville for our Mid-Year Session 2019, as it promises to be one of spiritual empowerment which creates transformative change. Pray for our constituent churches who are in the midst of transition and decline. Pray for those churches in search of new spiritual leaders. The world is hungry for the Living Bread, and our time of sharing in November promises to aid you as individuals and churches in showing society’s beggars how to get the Bread of Life. Helping People Rise Again

Hurricane Dorian powerfully, yet slowly, battered the NorthernBahamas Islands. This storm made its way upward through the

Florida coastline and the eastern seaboard and has affected manycoastal areas. We covet the prayers of our Virginia Baptist

constituents and faith community friends as our Bahamian friendsand US citizens have suffered and are suffering great loss.

Our VBSC Home Missions Dept. is working with our partners toimplement disaster relief strategies. We will be on the ground giving

support and aid. We ask that you direct your church, organizationand individual financial contributions to our VBSC office over the

next few weeks. We will work diligently with the our BaptistFellowships and Lott Carey in the purchase and distribution of

water, clothes, medical supplies and cleaning supplies. We will keepyou updated as to our progress and if there are other ways you canpartner with us. In sending your gifts large or small, we will make a

Kingdom impact just as we have in the past, as testimonies andletters of our past support still spring eternal.

Organized 1900

Rev. Dr. Kevin M. Northam,President

The Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress of Virginia is an Auxiliary of theVirginia Baptist State Convention and it is our purposeful intent to compliment and supplement theministry efforts of the Department of Christian Education, while annually providing the opportunity forquality education and Baptist doctrine. This past summer BSS & BTU held the annual session during the week of July 22-26, 2019 on thecampus of Virginia State University. We had a total of 171 registered delegates, an increase fromprevious years. Also, the total registration cost was reduced to afford an even greater opportunity forincreased attendance. Furthermore, we were grateful to have our VBSC President, Dr. Charles Whitfield as our combined doctrine lecturer, Vice-Pres.-At-Large, Dr. D. Tyrone Brandon as one of our evening preachers, andWomen’s Missionary and Education Auxiliary President, Sis.Linda Goode, in attendance. This yearwe offered CLS and COPP courses for teacher certifications and future deanship. One of thehighlights was graduation and certificate presentations for student delegates. We are scheduled for our upcoming Executive Board meeting at the Children’s Home of VirginiaBaptist on October 26, 2019 to evaluate, discuss, and plan the activities of our annual session. Thescheduled date and tentative location will be July 20th – 24th , 2020 at Virginia State University. Wewill be exploring other facilities and lodging options and will move forward with the mostadvantageous host site. Future registration information, course offerings and other details will bedistributed after our upcoming board meeting and we are seeking statewide support and attendancenext year. Please plan on joining us next July. Our goal continues to be able to offer adequatefacilities and economic costs, with the vision of increased attendance. Providing quality Christianeducation will remain our greatest priority.
