Have I told you what a wonderful staff we have here at HTLC?! The SonShine Preschool Board gathered with the SonShine staff for a little get-together in late May. This important outreach ministry of the congregation is led by Lori Tiede, along with teachers Marilyn Breim- horst and Stacy Kiihn. We are lucky to have all of them, and with a growing investment from the congregation, the future looks bright! Every congregation has a “face,” and it’s usually not the pastor! Jamie Bisek is that person for us! Virtually every person who comes into this building during the week is greeted by Jamie, she’s positive and respon- sive. And she’s also a strong leader! Speaking of leader, there’s Karen Taylor. One of the strategic initiatives was to create a ministry coordinator position. Karen is the perfect fit. She helps people share their gifts in a variety of ways. And she makes sure that things run smoothly in worship! I have been inundated with positive feedback for our Interim Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry, Sonja Nelson, which only confirms what I have learned from working with her. Sonja’s years of experience and insight have been a blessing to us. She has built a strong team of people who are investing in this vital ministry. Sonja has also helped us to realize that we need a full time person in that position. Rose Fife is our Music Coordinator, and works with Rita Sapp, Terry Drommerhausen, Tim Price, Tobie Thietje, and Lexi Lammers, an incredible team! In addition to their musical talent, this group works well together, and understands the importance of worship at the center of our life together. Jon Bergquist is our Facility Manager, which is currently a volunteer position. Jon has taken on sev- eral projects which have been an incredible support to the Property Team and Interior Space Team. We are lucky to have him! Jim Cody is here virtually every day as our custodian. It’s easy to take for granted just how good this building looks, thanks to Jim. Donna Galvin began preparing Wednesday meals a little over a year ago. She and her crew of vol- unteers not only prepare great food, but create an atmosphere of hospitality where everyone is wel- come. Kris Palma was recognized at our Celebration Meal last month! She is ending her run as our Nursery Attendant. We were fortunate to have her in this role. That’s a lot of part-time people! I am thankful for how well we work together! And then there are all of you. Staff play an important leadership role but there needs to be a balance between them and all those who share their gifts and leadership. HTLC gets this right! Oh, and one more thing: Wednesday worship will continue during the summer at 6:30 pm, with sup- per served from 5:30 to 6:23 pm. We are anxious to see how folks will respond! If you’re out of town on the weekend, come and join us on Wednesday! Perhaps you’re curious what Wednesday worship is like, or you haven’t had a chance to try out our wonderful meal. Have I told you what a wonderful staff we have here at HTLC?!

The SonShine Preschool Board gathered with the SonShine staff for a little get-together in late May. This important outreach ministry of the congregation is led by Lori Tiede, along with teachers Marilyn Breim-horst and Stacy Kiihn. We are lucky to have all of them, and with a

growing investment from the congregation, the future looks bright!

Every congregation has a “face,” and it’s usually not the pastor! Jamie Bisek is that person for us! Virtually every person who comes into this building during the week is greeted by Jamie, she’s positive and respon-

sive. And she’s also a strong leader!

Speaking of leader, there’s Karen Taylor. One of the strategic initiatives was to create a ministry coordinator position. Karen is the perfect fit. She helps people share their gifts in a variety of ways. And

she makes sure that things run smoothly in worship!

Sonja has also helped us to realize that we need a full time person in

that position.

Rose Fife is our Music Coordinator, and works with Rita Sapp, Terry Drommerhausen, Tim Price, Tobie Thietje, and Lexi Lammers, an incredible team! In addition to their musical talent, this group

works well together, and understands the importance of worship at the center of our life together.

Jon Bergquist is our Facility Manager, which is currently a volunteer position. Jon has taken on sev-eral projects which have been an incredible support to the Property Team and Interior Space Team.

We are lucky to have him!

Jim Cody is here virtually every day as our custodian. It’s easy to take for granted just how good this

building looks, thanks to Jim.

Donna Galvin began preparing Wednesday meals a little over a year ago. She and her crew of vol-unteers not only prepare great food, but create an atmosphere of hospitality where everyone is wel-

come.

Kris Palma was recognized at our Celebration Meal last month! She is ending her run as our Nursery

Attendant. We were fortunate to have her in this role.

That’s a lot of part-time people! I am thankful for how well we work together! And then there are all of you. Staff play an important leadership role but there needs to be a balance between them and all

those who share their gifts and leadership. HTLC gets this right!

Oh, and one more thing: Wednesday worship will continue during the summer at 6:30 pm, with sup-per served from 5:30 to 6:23 pm. We are anxious to see how folks will respond! If you’re out of town on the weekend, come and join us on Wednesday! Perhaps you’re curious what Wednesday worship is like, or you haven’t had a chance to try out our wonderful meal. Opening Prayer– Friendshuh

Approve Agenda: Motion by Lindlbom, 2nd by Gassner Approve March 2017 Minutes: Motion by Friendshuh, 2nd by Kienow SAT Update: Pat Mohn is out tonight, update moved to a future meeting.

Joan Winn updated on Worship Team work. Objectives include: 1) Encouraging special music by a sign

up campaign. 2) Increase testimonials – part of Lent services. 3) Explore performance theater during

Lent/Easter season – voices of Jesus on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday had a number of vocals and

instrumentals for a “moving service”. 4) Enhance worship space; a donor will contribute a new projector;

add lighting over lectern; on hold is the altar enhancement of raising it. 5) Worship innovations – continu-

ing to look at other church practices either in person or on line; new sound system on hold.

Action & Decision Register: Fiala reviewed.

Pastor's Report: Review job description for Senior Pastor. Synod Assembly is May 5-6 (not over-

night) available opportunity for council.

Treasurers Report: Kahnke reported. Bottom line for March - “good” month. Giving was down almost

$5,000 versus budget; operating expenses lower than budget. We’ve remained within approved budget for

the past three months.

Old Business:

Property assessment team reps will attend next city council meeting to learn about the proposed senior

living complex initiative.

Jon Bergquist presented a prioritized list of proposed capital expenditure projects and window replacement

is first priority of $18,000. Motion to go with what Jon recommended and give him the go ahead to replace

the windows. Friendshuh made the motion and 2nd

by Fiala. Gassner voted opposed due to contractor

reputation. Gassner motioned that we move forward with the kitchen fire suppression system, retrofitting

the vent hood over the stoves as Jon proposed, with a 2nd by Kienow. Sanctuary roof, Sonshine re-

strooms and sanctuary ceiling fans projects are on hold for more discussion.

New Business: Friendshuh asked council about the necessity for continuing the written SAT up-date by team leaders. Council agreed that when a team meets they can submit an update; otherwise not necessary. Closing Prayer— Lord’s Prayer Meeting Adjournment at 8:03 p.m. Motion by Gassner, 2nd by Lindblom Next Meeting: May 15, 2017 Respectfully submitted, Sharon Brown

Notes from the Finance Committee:

Good well to all of you fellow parishioners! It is with mixed feelings that I write our monthly update regard-ing finance. On one hand, our church is vibrant, growing, the congregation is investing in its future and beating the financial plan for the year. But on the other hand, the rain came in through the roof during ser-vice and part of our financial plans went out the window (so to speak). To put it simply, our budget for the first four months of 2017 was to have us deficit spending by $21,312 to date. In other words, borrowing through a line of credit in order to fulfill our strategic initiatives for the church. Based on our results from the first four months of the year, we have done better than planned, we actually deficit spent (or borrowed) $11,746. This is $9,566 better than planned, but again still a deficit spend. So the feelings regarding this are excellent. We are ‘ahead of plan’. But wait…

The roof didn’t stop the rain and the budget didn’t stop the spend. Therefore friends and neighbors, with a planned $58,400 deficit spend for 2017 in addition to increased spending regarding the welfare of the build-ing (roof & window’s), we find ourselves in need of assistance. We should all ask ourselves…Do I like a church that is dry during service…Yes. Do I like a church that doesn’t allow Minnesota’s in climate weather to approach me from all directions…Yes. Can I find it in my budget to help the church with building repairs…Yes. God Bless all of you and may you stay dry as the rainy weather is finally past!!

Dan’s Council letter to the Holy Trinitarians (June 2017)

Being a newly elected council person, I wanted to utilize my first letter to introduce myself to our congregation. My name is Dan Jacobson, I was born and raised in Albert Lea, MN. I have been a member of Holy Trinity for roughly twelve years. I attended church here even before that, with the Privratsky family, before Tonya and I were married. Even prior to becoming a member, I had always found our church to be a very welcoming place to build my faith, as well as my families.

I have many emotional ties to our church. I married my beautiful wife in our church, almost 18 years ago. I still picture so many events from that day every time I attend church. Also, our three children Bethany, Cody, and Emily have all been baptized at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. It seems like only yesterday we baptized them into our congregation. I recall things from their bap-tisms, every time we baptize a new child into our congregation.

We have lived in New Prague for twelve years and have always been proud to be members of HTLC. I am honored to be a member of our council, and look forward to learning more about our church. This congregation is the type of congregation I wanted to be part of. It is the type of congregation that makes everyone feel welcome.

My family and I have always attended the Sunday service. Recently we have discovered the Wednesday service as a better option for us. I love coming for a meal, and afterwards, being able to converse with other people in our congregation. Our children attend confirmation and crew time on Wednesday nights, and then we attend the service. It has allowed my family to gain Sundays as a family day. With camping season arriving, we are able to attend church more often with the Wednesday option also.

One of my favorite traditions, is attending the Christmas Eve service and singing “Silent Night” by candlelight. This has become a highlight of our Christmas Eve, every year. It is also nice to continue to see new faces joining our congregation. We are a blessed congregation who has many resources that will continue to increase the Holy Trinity experience and are committed to improving the everyday operations of our church. I consider it an honor to be on the Council for our beloved church and continuing to serve our congregation.

God’s Peace,

Dan Jacobson

Healing Broken Relationships

The loss experienced by those going

through separation and divorce, or the

ending a long term significant relationship

is great. For those grieving this loss,

tions. We meet on the first and third Tues-

tory of St. Wenceslaus across the handi-

cap parking from the church), 215 E. Main

Caring Adults for Confirmation Do you love God? Do you love/like Middle School youth? Then we're looking for you! This fall we will add small groups led by an adult leader to our confirmation minis-try. Our hope is to begin developing caring relationships with our youth. An adult leader will meet with the youth during the one hour class, help lead discussion in the small group, and spend time caring and listening to our youth. If you feel called to this ministry, contact Sonja Nelson, [email protected].

A different kind of pace

By the time this newsletter hits your mailbox, it will be “officially” summer. Most families have a

significant change in their schedule, some more relaxed and some more hectic. Whatever your

schedule, I hope you find a worship time that fits in it.

A change in pace can bring about time to reflect. Sometimes you see things from a differ-

ent perspective and you may feel called to do something new. We have several opportunities for

you to experience a change of pace and to answer the call to serve our church.

Wednesday Evening Worship Assistants - Our well of resources is pretty shallow on Wednesday

Evenings, so we are looking for a little bit of everything. Ushers, Communion Assistants, and

Readers.

Power Point Runners - Anyone 7th grade and older can be trained to run the PowerPoint for

worship service. It’s a great way to build service hours for Middle School and High School Youth!

Vacation Bible School Leaders - If you are interested in helping with VBS, see Sonja Nelson or

sign-up online on the church website. (www.holytrinityonline.org)

Welcome Center Hosts - If you love this church and you love to talk, you are qualified to host the

Welcome Center!

Thank you for prayerfully listening and hearing your call. If you have any questions,

please contact me at [email protected] or call the church office at 952-758-3513.

Blessings,

Karen Taylor
