Viet Cong one of the most fierce foes U.S. has ever
faced. Known for there ruthlessness and torture of prisoners.
Extremely effective at guerilla warfare and lethal booby traps.
U.S. navy sealsThe navy seals were first active 1962 as a
special tact force for recon and behind line missions.
The navy seals had excellent records in the Vietnam war with small squads operating in unconventional warfare and guerilla tactics.
Still the navy seals remain one of the best
special operation forces in the world.
Media and popularityVietnam is a very popular movie and book
topic with it being moderately recent and intertwined with the minds of millions.
Movies like “Forrest Gump” about Vietnam or somewhat about Vietnam are enticing and intriguing.
Some things make all the differenceThe weapons and arms of military changed
greatly between world war two the Vietnam war.
The main change in arms was the m16 and the mp5. the m16 an automatic carbine with very accurate iron sights and the mp5 a submachine gun also with iron sights.
The other important step forward is air support. The gun ships of Vietnam such as the AC-130A has four main 50cal. Machine guns with other guns, cannons and many tons of bombs.
The hippies of the Vietnam war era saw the war as an unnecessary engagement and wanted to get the troops out of Asia and back in the states. A famous slogan was make love not war.
Many starts of teen rebellion had its birth in this era. The increased pressure of american youth led to a small part of the U.S. withdrawl.

The draftUnlike WWII Vietnam was not popular and a
war draft was started making thousands serve.
The draft was disbanded after the matter and the U.S. is now an all volunteer military.
The bitter endEven though the U.S. never lost a single
major battle they eventually withdrew from Vietnam.
With America gone the southern Vietnamese put up little resistance soon the Vietcong flag was raised high.
Many are scarred from Vietnam both emotionally and physically. But we can all agree it was one of the bloodiest and vicious wars of all time.
