The History Of Video Games

In 1952, A.S. Douglas wrote his PhD degree at the University of Cambridge on Human-Computer interaction. Douglas created the first graphical computer game - a version of Tic-Tac-Toe. The game was programmed on a EDSAC vacuum tube computer. Which had a cathode ray tube display. In 1967 Ralph Baer wrote the first video game played on a television set, a game called “chase” Ralph Baer was then part of Sanders Associates, a military electronic firm. Later on in the early 70’s Nolan Bushnell created the first arcade game. It was called Computer Space, which was based on Steve Russell's earlier game of Spacewar. A year later the video game Pong was created by Nolan Bushnell and he’s co-worker Al Alcorn in 1972.

The History of ConsolesThe first ever fully TV working console was made by the company Magnavox in 1972. This first generation console was called the Odyssey the first home video game console which could be connected to a TV set. The console allowed children to play a wide variety of games like tennis, volleyball, hockey, and chase. The Odyssey was initially only moderately successful, and it was not until Atari's arcade game Pong popularized video games, that the public began to take more notice of the emerging industry.

Atari’s PONG arcade machine was so popular in 1973 that Atari decided to market the game as a home console two years later in 1975. In that same year, Magnavox decided to improve its Odyssey system and released not one, but two different improved versions of the original console, the Magnavox Odyssey 100 and 200.

Game DevelopersThe game developers are the creative team that plan and create the game titles for both consoles, handheld and of course PC. They can very from around 200 people to a small group of ten of them. A developer may specialize in an exclusive game for a single console i.e. Microsoft's Xbox 360, or it could be developed for a number of consoles, handheld devices , and PC’s. They play the most vital role in the gaming world because they are the developers of the game that control all sections of groups such as the animators, the level designers, character creators and a lot more.First Party Game DevelopersA first party game developer is a game creator who creates video games for one particular game console i.e. the PlayStation 3 and may use the name of the company within it or has a specific division name that have been a independent company after being acquired by a certain console company.

Third Party Game DevelopersThird Party developers are called upon by video game publishers to create a project (video game) for one or multiple consoles. The developers and publishers play a big role in the making of a video games design and its content, however the publisher generally override those of the developers. The arrangement between the developer and publisher is governed by a contract which contains a list of milestones that are set to be completed by the developers of the game itself and to be completed of the date that is on the contract. The publisher will then verify the work that being done to the game to meet its deadline. If the game is not up to par, the publisher will correct the developer if its not meeting the publishers expectations.

Gaming Social networking sites such as IGN that give the viewers daily news and information regarding the latest games that are released to the public or even games that are still in development that hype up the games and are convinced to buy the games when they’re released. The Media is also a great way to publicize video games with cardboard cutouts of human sized characters of a certain video game. to advertisements on popular websites such as YouTube, Facebook, and gaming websites like Gamespot.
