The United Kingdom Key Questions What do I already know about the United Kingdom (UK)? I know that there are four countries in the UK - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. I know that each country has a capital city (London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast). I know that Lincoln is a city in England and is the closest city to Skellingthorpe. How else is the UK divided up? As well as the four countries, the UK is split into regions. There are eight regions in England. Each region is also split into counties. A county is a smaller area and contains lots of cities, towns and villages. Lincolnshire is our county and is found in the East Midlands.
