We are an ethics and sustainability minded hair, fashion, art studio and boutique. We believe there is a way to enjoy beauty, fashion, and art without sacrificing our future.

In our salon we use only cruelty free products, we divert 95% of our waste through Green Circle Salons program, and we work at empowering our clients. In our fashion studio, we produce an ethically made, eco-friendly sustainable clothing line called The Disco Dolls Designs. We have an in house zero waste creative studio, and offer education about the impact of textiles and fashion on our world. We encourage our clients to have a more sustainable lifestyle, and offer them choices in our boutique to that end. We also encourage reuse and offer clothing alterations as a service.

We have a revolving local art gallery and have openings the first Friday of the month. Our goal is to give artists from all backgrounds a place to explore an idea, or have their first solo show, and see the community’s reaction and interaction with their art. We work with them in a mentorship program in preparations for their show for up to 6 months prior.

A pillar of our business, that infuses into every facet, is building a strong community by offering classes, services, and products that help enrich the lives of our customers and friends. We have worked on refining this concept, while building our business, for the past decade. As we move forward, our central focus is looking for new ways to be sustainable, give back, and grow.

Our ProcessWe work hard to make sure that our garments are designed to leave the least amount of waste on the cutting table. We use innovation and creativity to re imagine everyday shapes. Our focus is a modern uniform, meaning pieces that can be convertible from day to night, and from size to size. Many of our pieces are one size, or a simple s/m l/XL. Creating options that make each piece customizable, no matter how your size fluctuates from month to month.

Bamboo is a renewable sustainable resource.

As lifelong creatives, we have always striven to use, reuse, and re-imagine materials we already possessed, or could readily find. Part of this practice is rooted in frugality and always being budget conscious. We have always had strong personal ethics, therefore it was a natural choice that these would be applied to our business venture. If you are an aware minded individual, you see all the waste created daily and how that affects our planet. Of course, we get frustrated sometimes and want to just throw everything away, but we chose to be a Zero Waste Studio.

We begin with intelligent design.

This means we are very conscious of every single item we bring into our lives and the studio, and it is a constant challenge to make use of every scrap. Living with a Zero Waste mentality results in making smarter decisions and better choices.

We almost exclusively use bamboo, and bamboo blends. All our fabric comes from mills that are inspected regularly, and maintain fair trade standards.

Like hemp, bamboo is another highly sustainable crop as it does not claim farming land, grows very fast and needs minimal care. It is a much better CO2 extractor and oxygen emitter than trees, and all bamboo products are completely biodegradable and recyclable. The raw material bamboo is certified organic. Our bamboo yarn is certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100 which is safe even for baby products. In addition, our fabrics meet international Restricted Substance Limits standards.

For our bleaching process, we do not use chlorine bleach, only hydrogen peroxide bleach, and no optic brightener is used. The dyes used on our fabrics are all Procion low impact, fiber reactive dyes. These dyes are nontoxic, safe, and eco friendly. They require only low temperature water processing and only salt and soda ash as auxiliary agents.

The Uniform Project was created from a need to have reliable and well fitting garments that make you feel as good as you look. Clothes are your daily armor, so we wanted to create a collection of clothes to exist as essentials for anyones wardrobe.

Our mission with the uniform project is to create classic silhouettes that are convertible for all body types, shapes and sizes.

Pieces that will help you greet the day no matter what it brings. Classic yet contemporary designs with sustainability in mind. The canvas for you to paint your personality onto. Garments that can be mixed and matched with vintage items or other pieces already in most wardrobes. It’s about buying better and buying less. It’s about loving clothing that loves you back, in dependability and how they make you feel personally.

Buy better, buy less.

We create our clothing in our zero waste studio environment with every care taken to ensure we are leaving the smallest impact.

From day to day we all range in size, some with bigger top or bottom halves. In addition to our clothing line, we have a small boutique and realize the impact of carrying a large size range, while still having something for everyone. Our sizing is fluid, and our pieces are designed to fit many body types within one size. That’s why you’ll see most of our pieces are letter rather than number sizes, as well as ties that use cast off selvedge fabric.

All silhouettes are made to order in our signature bamboo fabric. This way, no inventory is wasted or produced unnecessarily. [95% bamboo 5% spandex]

Meet MaeveThe Maeve is our zero waste dress. We worked with the drape of the fabric to create a one size classic silhouette. Belted with a rope belt we create from the cut away selvage edge. Can also be worn open as a kaftan.

This is a true one size dress. We do offer a petite version for height.

With proper care and wear habits, our garments should last at least 50 wears. Proper care is cold water wash or hand wash and lay flat or hang to dry.

We recommend to let the garment rest for 24 hours between wears. This allows the knit to fully recover.

Give to a friend or family member, clothing swaps are a great thing to do with friends and family, where everyone leaves with a new look! We can also alter the piece for you, mending and alterations can totally change the look of a garment. If it has been damaged, or there are no other options - bring it to us!We will recycle it for you!

We work with local fiber artists and non profits to recycle cloth, as well as our in house recycling where we twist and weave the fabric into rope.

Designer Bio:

Leigh Anne grew up in Sarasota Florida loving glamour and from a young age knew she wanted to design and create clothing. Through her journey of design school she didn’t connect with the status quo of how the fashion world worked. She wanted to create things that felt as good as they looked and were made without harming the earth or its people. She loved wearing vintage and creating looks that made a statement and loving every piece of clothing as a friend. She followed a path to Chicago after design school creating art wear, costumes, movie styling, and developing patterns and designs for small clothing lines. Tired of the cold weather she relocated back to Florida to start The Disco Dolls Studio ( a Hair. Fashion. Art studio and Boutique) with her sister Kristine and friend Beth. Through this endeavor Leigh Anne has been able to implement all the creative ideas of her youth mixed with the experience and gravity that comes with age. She is the designer and creator of The Disco Dolls Designs an eco bamboo clothing line made with all bodies in mind. She also takes commissions for one of a kind garments ranging from wedding gowns, performance wear, or ready to wear. Her studio is zero waste, she offers alterations to the community, and hopes to create a growing movement of careful consumerism. If we are mindful, thoughtful and sustainably minded in our lives then we will be creating a better world around us.
