Slingsby Parish Plan – Update
Slingsby Parish Plan was completed in 2009 and is now nearly five years old, this is when it is recommended that they are refreshed and updated, so they contain up to date information etc. Parish Plans are very useful and effective when used to influence decision makers and to prove a need when applying for funding. A number of projects were achieved following the first plan and these include The Triangle Newsletter, Slingsby Village Website and the Village Allotments The Parish Council feel it would be beneficial to update the Parish Plan and as before would like to encourage residents to become involved. One way to do this is become a member of the Parish Plan Steering Group which on average would hold monthly meetings for about six months. Support will again be provided by Rural Action Yorkshire (RAY). Changes to your Garden Waste Service
What's changing?
From June 2014, the garden waste collection service
will become chargeable, at £27 for the period Jun
2014 to Mar 2015. This works out at less than £2 per
collection.
Information pack
An information pack being mailed directly to each property contains
a letter and a leaflet, detailing how residents can subscribe to the
scheme. Also included will be a leaflet containing some useful
frequently asked questions about the changes.
How to subscribe
By far the quickest and easiest way to pay is online.
You can subscribe to the service now.
“However, there will be a number of other easy ways
to pay, for residents who do not have access to a
computer”, said Beckie Bennett, Streetscene Manager for Ryedale
District Council.
What happens next? Once payment has been received you
will receive a confirmation letter along
with your licence within 14 days. Your
licence will need to be affixed to your
bin to show the collection crew that you have paid to receive the
service. Bins without current licences will not be emptied.
For residents using compostable liners instead of wheeled bins new
liners will be delivered.
Cut off date
It will be possible to subscribe to the scheme any time up until 18
July, but residents are advised to subscribe as soon as possible so
they can benefit from the maximum number of collections.
Garden waste collections cannot be guaranteed if subscriptions are
received after 18 July 2014.
Composting at home
If you would like to try composting more of your garden waste at home, low cost containers are available now.

The triple bill of events in the village over the May Day bank holiday is the busiest part of the year for the website. Over those three days the website receives just short of six times the usual level of traffic, such is the interest in the car boot sale, scarecrow trail and the May Day celebrations. We haven't broken any daily viewing records so far this year but we are still on track to beat the yearly total of 44,120 page views attained in 2013, if the website visitor numbers continue at the current pace. So far this year the website has had over 18,000 page views.
The village Facebook and Twitter pages continue to spread the word, with both sites being automatically updated with any new articles whenever the village site is updated. The village Twitter feed recently passed 700 followers, many of whom live and work in the Ryedale area and remains one of the best tools for distributing news and events information. The village Facebook page reached 74 followers in early May and also appears to be a popular way of keeping up-to-date with village news and events. Finally, the website team are still looking for someone to join their ranks to keep the website up-to-date with news and events. While the village website may look complicated to update, it is in fact really quite easy to add news and events. Barmy?
Hi all, you may recall in the last issue of The Triangle I asked the question Brave or Barmy! Well the answer is definitely barmy!
The morning of the 4th May came with a little rain but we decided to go for it as the forecast was for dry and sunny later in the day so we set off at 9am rather than 8 30 as we had planned. We also went round the opposite way to our plan as to avoid the tractor run at Wombleton and the Kirby 10k fun run! We had a lovely ride to Helmsley and then things started to get a bit tougher from then on. Spout House came next where we stopped for a drink and a photo.
Moved onto the car park at top of Clay Bank. Had a short break before going down to Kildale and Westerdale where the hills really started to bite. I must admit to walking up some of the steepest ones but Emma pedalled up them all! We then had a break at Westerdale before going on to Blakey then down to Farndale.
I think the hardest hill was the one up into Gillamoor (Surprise View) and was pleased to see that seat outside the Sun Inn pub. The ride home from there seemed very easy after what had gone behind us and we completed the run in 5hrs 25mins (a good sixty miles plus . Ed) without any mishaps. I reckon it could have been quicker but I had to keep waiting for Emma (she says other way round but I'm sure that’s right!) I feel very proud to be able to help Emma like this. We raised £550 for the conservation project, Opwall Conservation Co., and would like to thank everyone that sponsored us. Also big thanks to Elaine who stepped in at short notice to be our spares carrier, first aider (thankfully not needed in either role) she was also our grub shop and photographer. Once again thank you all, John and Emma Hatfield.

Slingsby Methodist Church
Can I offer a word in praise of Slingsby Methodist Church? I know that, as their Minister, I am biased but I have never had the privilege of being associated with such an open and outward looking group of Christians. I thought I had retired some 5 years ago but when I was asked to help out again at Slingsby I couldn’t refuse the request and this September I will be starting my third year back with them.
We want to be a relevant part of the life of the village and as such try, both as the church and as individuals to take an active part in village life. We also want people living in the village to be able to call upon us if they think we can help them. That might be at a time of stress, when you want need someone to turn to or at a time of joy, when you want to celebrate. We would love to see you at one of our services but if you just want prayers said for some special occasion or concern then remember our prayer box on the wall outside the chapel.
As many of you know our premises are used, throughout the year, by many different groups and we strive to ensure that they are always clean and warm. All of this takes money so may I ask you to consider helping when we have our ‘Gift Day’ on Saturday 7th June between 10.00 am and 12 noon. If you can help, in any way, we will be very grateful. Easter Sunday Service
Saturday 7th June. We are having a GIFT DAY in The Methodist Schoolroom 10am to 12 noon. This is to raise funds for redecorating the Chapel interior. Slingsby School’s Annual Duck Race and Family Fun Day is being held on Saturday 28th June between 12-4pm, with the ducks being released at 3.30pm. Slingsby Football Club had a very good second half to the season, Playing 12 league games winning 6, drawing 5 and losing only 1 which meant finishing second in the table and being promoted to the first division.
On Saturday 3rd May, Slingsby Football club held their AGM and Presentation/Awards afternoon in the club house which was very well attended and everyone had a good afternoon.
AGM The annual general meeting started with a minutes silence in memory of Walter Marshall and Pete Myers who both sadly passed away just before the start of the season. The officers were then elected for the 2014/15 season.

Slingsby Village Hall Committee are pleased to announce that we have been successful in obtaining a grant for the replacement of external doors and windows to the Village Hall with new double glazed windows and doors. Rosemary Wormald Many of the pictures in the new publication were from the Wormald Collection, assembled over many years by Rosemary’s husband Alan. They ran the Post Office and shop at what is now Prospect House at the bottom of High Street from 1968 till 2001. Rosemary is now living near Richmond in North Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association
In the absence of the chairman, Pat Elener took the April meeting and welcomed members. After apologies were received and points of interest in the association newsletter were read Pat introduced Anne Blair, who gave a very interesting talk about Wimbledon. She attends the finals every year and gave a history of the All England Tennis Club and was very knowledgeable about the players.
The May meeting was to be a visit to Moorfield Alpaca Farm at Kirkbymoorside. Unfortunately because of the heavy rainfall the fields were too water logged and the visit had to be cancelled, so a quiz night was arranged instead which was a huge success. The next meeting is an outing to Skidby windmill on Tuesday 10th June and if anyone is interested in joining the visit please contact Sue Birkbeck 01653 627293 as there may still be a spare seat on the bus. ‘Slingsby Then and Now,’
The recent book edited and masterminded by David Thornley which pulls together all the information we have collected about Slingsby businesses, has now sold out of its present print run. It raised £1,139.50. This is a magnificent opening credit for our fund to create a permanent archive for village history. Very many thanks to David and Carol Thornley for all their work on this.
