The Transmitter Suburban RC Barnstormers - P.O. Box 524, Bloomingdale, IL 60108 AMA CHAPTER 640 IMAA CHAPTER 194 June 2015 http://www.suburbanrcbarnstormers.com Coming in June and July June 8 th , Membership Meeting, Bloomingdale Public Library, 7:00pm June 14 th , Fun Fly #2, New Pratt’s Wayne Flying Field, 9:00am Trim Flights, 10:00am First Pilot Off July 13 th , Membership Meeting, Bloomingdale Public Library, 7:00pm July 19 th , Fun Fly #3, New Pratt’s Wayne Flying Field, 9:00am Trim Flights, 10:00am First Pilot Off President’s Corner By Steve Thill I hope you all have been able to try out the new field and runway. I’ve seen a good number of people out using the field and it seems like folks are getting much more confident with taking off and landing on the runway. I know the field isn’t perfect day one but it is very usable and I’m sure we will adapt and improve it as time goes by. One question I’ve gotten a lot is around mowing. The Forest Preserve has informed me that the field surrounding the runway will be mowed weekly on the normal Thursday while the outer ring of grass will be mowed on a monthly basis. On another note, I would like to say a huge “thank you” to Steve Merrill for coordinating the “Novice Night” on Thursday nights. As you may know, Hobby Town in St. Charles has graciously donated an Apprentice trainer to our club for flight introduction / instruction. The trainer has already been put to good use as a full scale pilot got his first RC flight on it last night and my daughter even gave it a try. If you haven’t been to the Hobby Town in St. Charles in the past year or so I highly recommend visiting and saying “Hi” to the new owner, Jeremy. Jeremy has really done wonders for the product selection and has a great assortment for us plane fliers. On a final note, during last month’s club meeting we discussed the Barnstormer’s continued association with winter dome flying. At the club meeting members seem to be very polarized on this topic. For some members the dome has run its course and they are no longer interested in participating but for others the dome is a major part of the enjoyment they get from this hobby. Personally, I believe our club needs to be inclusive when it comes to supporting the RC flight interests our membership and should continue to promote the safe and responsible enjoyment of this wonderful hobby. Fly Safe, Steve Were Back! (at the Bloomindale Library) Just a reminder that our meetings are now back in Bloomingdale. The Bloomingdale Library is located at 101 Fairfield Way, Bloomingdale, IL 60108. This is about half way between Army Trail Rd and Lake Street on Bloomingdale road.

  • Notes of the Suburban RC Barnstormers Membership Meeting May 11, 2015

ATTENDANCE There were 36 members present and 2 guest at the Bloomingdale Public Library meeting. OFFICER REPORTS President: Steve Thill presided over the meeting. Thank you for coming. June 8th meeting will be at the Bloomingdale Library. I will not be here on the 8th meeting Hector will run the meeting. We have not heard back from the library for our upcoming meetings. Thank you to those who help in getting the radio stand redone. Thanks to Doug, Hector, John, Steve and all the guys that came and especially to Jerry letting us use his shop. Update on the field: The biggest change since last meeting is the new field opening. A lot of you have being out there. I’m working with the forest preserve and ground keepers to figure out what to do with standing issues. Opening day to be May or June, the Forest Preserve has some big people coming for the event. Hoping it happens quickly. Scott will send out notice of the new field. Some of the issues are fixing grass and wood spikes to get them out. Steve asked about a roller from the forest preserve. This all for now, Vice President: Hector Rivera About 100 squares left for the camera maybe some will win it tonight. Also some door prizes; stay ride, ipad cover, weights, and some misc. tubing and a trickle charger (let us know how that works). Treasurer: Bob Elsner Paid and pick up field permits. Ernie take them since most of them are for the fun fly. I also sign and submitted to the library for meeting rooms for July thru December, probably by the end of June will hear back from them. We will see how many conflicts we will have with them for the next 6 months. If anyone is not sure if their renew I have an updated list see me. I received a check from the fairground for the extra tables and chairs it was $439, net profit $1848.32, $125 more than last year. (All clap and said Thank you Debbie), not a record breaker but not at the bottom either. I figure out $1700, $148 is covers any shortage and dues. And we are good to go. Secretary: Ofelia Rivera Passed out name tags for the Oleniczak family.

  • … Notes from the desk of the Fun Fly Coordinator … By Ernie Blenkle

Fun Fly # 1 05/17/15 Fast & Slow First let me say thanks to the participants, Steve Merrill, Dave West, Steve Thill, Bob Sarley, Jeff Peca, Chuck Weibler and myself. Honorable mention to Mike Maciewski, unfortunately the trim flight with his plane did not go as anticipated…sorry Mike. Also - big hats off to Hector for lending a helping hand! We battled wind and rain all morning long and no one said, let’s stop and call it a day. We had three rounds and the fastest was a 3.5 second pass by Steve Merrill(3) and Steve Thill(1), the slowest actual pass was 31 seconds by Dave West.

The best crash goes to Chuck Weibler who’s wings separated in flight, the plane crashed but amazingly there was zero damage and the plane flew again a little later in the day. Here are the standings from today:

    • 1st with 82.9 is Jeff Peca • 2nd with 70.7 is Steve Merrill • 3rd with 56 is Ernie Blenkle • 4th with 50.5 is Dave West • 5th with 45.5 is the tag team of Steve Thill and

Bob Sarley • 6th with 34.1 on a 3rd round DNF run is Chuck

    Weibler
