We invite you in September to participate in the Episcopal Spiritual Life Inventory Survey, an important first step in our parishs commitment and participation in RenewalWorks in our Diocese. Saint Jameshas been invited to join other Episcopal churches nationwide who have partici- pated in taking a comprehensive survey of spiritual life that can help provide valuable infor- mation to the Parish on our faith journey as a congregation. The inventory was created by RenewalWorks, an Episcopal organization charged with advancing spiritual growth, and is intended to be thought provoking for your own faith journey. RenewalWorks is partnering with Episcopal churches of all sizes and demographics, so while some of the questions may not resonate with you personally, or our Saint Jamescommunity, they will form the basis for a broader study for the national church. Regardless of where you are on your faith journey- satisfied or seeking a new direction- we want to hear from all adult members of your household. Your results will be completely anonymous and confidential. You will receive the link to take the online Survey at Church in the Sunday Bulletin. We suggest that you set aside about 20-30 minutes to complete the inventory. We recognize that your time is valuable and it is important to note that once you start the inventory you must complete it - it is not possible to take part of the inventory and resume at later time. Due to the subject matter, it is intended to be completed in one sitting, to allow you to reflect on your faith in important ways. All completed online inventories will be automatically tabulated by RenewalWorks. One Sided

It’s just not fair! How many times have we said that in our lives?? We all want to see things done fairly and equally, especially when it’s about us!! When things are “one sided”, we don’t like it. We know that there are at least two sides to every story, and when we only hear one, it’s just not enough to satisfy our human nature. Even when we’re at sporting events, we like to see competition. Sure, if our team is winning with a lopsided score, we might feel good about our team, but even in those situations, a one-sided victory can be less rewarding than a well fought battle for the win. And so it goes in life, we have an innate ability to sense the one sidedness of situations, and even in our early years, we see it, sense it and don’t like it. It just isn’t fair! It wasn’t then and it’s not now. So where can we get the fair and unbiased viewpoint? One that we can always trust and not have to second guess? How do we judge and who is to judge? It’s difficult to declare some-thing unfair or stacked to one side if we don’t understand each and every aspect of the circum-stances. But how can we do that? Are we expected to know the thoughts and feelings of every-one involved to make a solid judgment or decision?? Well, no, but,..there is Someone that can, and that Someone is very One sided. Someone who judges fairly one hundred percent of the time, completely from a One-sided view. When we face struggles that have such twisted stories and emotions, how do we unravel them, and also be able to look at them objectively? As in any situation in life, we turn to Jesus. Jesus in the only One-sided source that we can rely on for direction and the right path. It’s so difficult for us at times to find the right answer and right advice when we look to each other. As much as our hearts may be willing to provide the best response possible to help a friend through a diffi-cult time, sometimes it’s just too difficult to separate feelings and not have our thoughts come from a one-sided view. Jesus, on the other hand, knows all our thoughts and knows exactly what is on our hearts. When we call on Him to help us through all the difficulties we face in life. We can also rest as-sured that His answer will be One sided, but that is exactly what we need. We need to simply turn to Him, pour out our thoughts and feelings, and let Him answer as only He can do. His an-swers will always be One sided, because He and only He can answer us in a Holy and just way, consistently, for any situation we face. In our day to day lives, we’ll continually run into issues that we feel are one sided and need to be worked out for fairness and consistency. And in each case, we need to turn to Jesus, and let Him give us his One-sided view. It’s the only one we will ever need.

With Jesus, life is just fine when it’s One sided. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Dom Perfetti

THANK YOU!

We completed another successful School Supplies Drive to benefit Safe Homes. 29 Backpacks were donated, along with lots and lots of notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons and everything else a child needs to start school. Todd at Safe Homes expressed their gratitude for our church's generosity. He said they can never have enough notebooks and we gave them a lot! Once again, thank you so much for your generosity! STEWARDSHIP 2017

G.I.F.T. Growing In Faith Together It is September and all activities of St. James will begin again. The Stewardship Committee is planning for the Stewardship Commitment Sundays for the 2017 budget. We are planning to hold the Commitment Sundays during October on the 2, 9, 16 and 16th. I ask everyone to prayerfully consider making a commitment to support the financial budget for 2017. It is an op-portunity to take an inventory of what we’ve been given and what ways we are called to give. Stewardship starts with the basic recognition of our dependence on God. It begins in the indi-vidual heart of the believer, choosing prayerfully and deliberately to give. We are called to re-new our recognition of God’s blessings and our commitment to supporting our church home during this season of thanksgiving. We need 100% support of the St. James membership if we are going to meet the financial needs of the parish. It is also important that all members become involved in the activities and organizations of St. James. We all must give of our Time and Tal-ent to St. James. Bring a friend to church to enjoy the fellowship of St. James. All members who attended the Great Easter Vigil or a service when there was a baptism had the opportunity to renew their Baptismal Covenant. To continue on the theme of stewardship and our Baptismal Covenant we are asked finally: “Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ? Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neigh-bor as yourself ? “ and “ Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being ? “ These promises refer to our presence and ministry in the world. What is required for the spread of the Gospel? What is required to insure that all human needs are met: for food, shelter, equali-ty, human dignity, justice and love ? As stewards of God’s bounty in the world, we are to give of our presence, participation, and the resources at our disposal until these needs are met. Do we see to it that the education and outreach ministries of St. James are adequately financed, and our time and talent adequately volunteered so that we can claim to be fulfilling these promises? As we prayerfully examine the promise of our Baptismal Covenant, we are given the opportuni-ty to ask ourselves whether we are faithfully keeping the promises we have made. Are we faith-ful and dependable stewards of those resources entrusted to us? Are we regularly present and engaged in the worship of God, the study of scriptures and tradition, and the fellowship of com-munity? Do we generously give of our money at a level that represents genuine commitment? The persons who are able to look within their hearts and honestly answer “ yes “ to these ques-tions are people who have discovered the connection between what they give and their ability to receive: between grace and gratitude. Pledging is the simple process whereby members of the parish make a financial commitment towards the support of St. James Church for the coming year. Your pledge is a commitment to give consistently which allows us to plan carefully and make responsible decisions about the operating budget and funding critical ministries.
