The Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge was built at the request of the population to facilitate the mobility of people and vehicles, and it was in 1876 that the « City of London Corporation" decided to build the london bridge. It took 8 years for 432 workers and 5 builders to build the bridge.

The machinery was opened to the public in 1982 as a museum to present the hydraulic operation of the bridge.

At the time of its construction, the Tower Bridge was the largest and most sophisticated bascule bridge ever built. This bridge is famous for its unusual architecture: it consists of two towers, a rigid suspension, for the passage of the biggest ships.The construction started in 1886 and was finished in 1894. It’s 286 meters long.
