The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program through which students in participating states may enroll in designated two-year and four-year public institutions and programs in other participating states at a special, reduced tuition level. Tuition for WUE students is the regular in-state tuition plus 50 percent of that amount. In all programs, the cost to WUE students is substantially less than nonresident tuition. Students do not need to demonstrate financial need to receive the WUE tuition benefit.WUE participating states in 2015 – 2016 are:Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico, Montana, Washington, California, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, WyomingHow WUE WorksThe student applies to the institution of his/her choice, indicating that WUE status is desired. The institution responds directly to the student. The student must mark prominently on the application for admission that he/she seeks admission as a WUE student. For more information, checkout their website: www.wiche.edu/sep/wue

ResumeHave a resume listing GPA, class standing, and academic high points (awards; A’s in AP, IB, or honors courses; etc.). Further, the resume should list all extracurricular activities, including awards and leadership positions. If you have not started a resume, start one NOW and keep it current—update it at the end of each semester. You’ll be glad you did!

Request for RecommendationWe try to write handcrafted, individually tailored letters of recommendation. Each letter takes ca. 1-3 hours to compose. Help us help you! When you need a letter, plan ahead and give your recommender two weeks notice.

Sending a Thank YouTeachers ask for very little and are usually glad to write a letter of recommendation. However, they put a lot of time and energy into doing this service for you. A simple thank you card or note is common courtesy—nothing more is necessary or expected.

Who NOT to ask for a letter of recommendationIf you’ve ever been caught cheating or plagiarizing, if you’ve ever earned a “U” in citizenship, if you’ve ever been sent to the deans’ office, DO NOT ASK THAT TEACHER FOR A RECOMMENDATION! If you force the issue and the teacher actually writes the letter, he or she is ethically free—perhaps even ethically required—to note the unfortunate incident in his or her letter of “recommendation.” And you will have “asked for it.”
