We decided to cancel July’s meeting because there were only three of us avail- able and that hardly makes for a representative discussion. We anticipate being able to meet in August.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As you may have no-ticed, we scheduled “off season” workshops on the third Friday of the months of May, June, July, August, and September. Although the New Year seems far off, it is budget time already. Hopefully by the time Barry High starts putting the budget together we’ll know where we stand with Venture Construction and the building and carport roofs; this should help im-mensely with our planning. Once Barry has a draft put together we can discuss it at a Workshop, so each BOD member has input, and unit owners have a chance to chime in. We will again in all like-lihood, propose a non-fully funded budget which means that you, the owners, will have to vote to approve it as has been done the past couple of years. Don’t be alarmed by the term “non-fully funded”. We will see to it that our reserves are covered, and there is sufficient money in the Oper-ating Budget. Some things, for example, that by statute require Reserve funding, we take care of out of the operating budget as needed. We are very fortunate to have Barry as our treasurer - he truly has the interest of all unit owners at heart. If you haven’t already, please read Todd’s remarks concerning the sewage lift pumps. Not a pleasant subject to bring up, but it seems to be a needless recurring expense. To those of you not in residence, we hope you are enjoying your summer. We look forward to your return in the Fall and/or after the holidays. Glenn Meyer, President

From the Manager I am constantly

learning new things at Cir-cle Bay. In my relatively short time as a CAM, I have yet to deal with a deteriorat-ing concrete lanai in need of repair, until now. The concrete and re-bar on a second floor lanai are in very bad shape and ap-parently the cause is from outdoor carpet that at one time served as the floor covering. After speak-ing to other managers and finding out that they are dealing with this issue on a regular basis, I would consider us fortunate. I am writing about this be-cause part of our success may have to do with the fact that we ban the use of outdoor carpet/rugs on the lanais and front entrances. I want to make sure that we are reminded of that policy. The carpet or any similar material will retain and transfer the moisture, eventually rusting the steel re-bar. If you have any questions whether you have something

that can damage the structure please contact the office and we will be happy to look. Our lift station was sabotaged once again by someone who manages to flush a mop head down the toilet. This has happened twice since we bought the new pump six months ago. It is costly and extremely frustrating when we should see nothing in the tank but human waste and toilet paper, Please see the pic:

One's mind can think strange thoughts when trying to determine how and why and who? It would even be probable that the one who needs to see this will not be reading this article. I sup-pose the next best thing, to be proactive, would be to simply remind all who we see cleaning or ser-vicing units to never flush materials down our sys-tem. Forewarned is forearmed. If you have been thinking of updating your toilets, it may be a good time to do it. We have been finding the wax ring seals are leaking for those who still have an origi-nally installed toilet. I have been notified by our tree trimming company that they will be here to trim all the palms, the week of August 7th. Many thanks, Todd Harper, Association Manager

A View from the Bridge Here we are again, the middle of summer and it seems that everyone has flown north. Mary and I will join the parade leaving for the mountains of North Carolina at the end of Ju-ly and returning at the end of October. Till then Vice Commodore Larry Bryant will be on hand if you should need any Yacht Club services. Here’s hoping everyone has a great summer!

Dennis Stewart Vice Commodore, CBY&SC

Happy hour on Friday nights continue on the deck weather per-mitting. You know the drill—BYOB and something to share. If it's too hot and muggy, the group will move into the Clubhouse. July found the ladies' luncheon group at Sailor's Return. The nine gals who attended en-joyed their lunch inside since it was too hot to enjoy the deck. Spritz City Bistro located where Mulli-gan's used to be in down town Stuart is the site of the August luncheon. If you plan to attend, please call Lee Weeks (772-631-4236).

The Welcoming Committee reported the following activity for June. There was one sale; one new annual lease and two annual lease renewals. No new seasonal leases and no seasonal lease renewals were reported for the 2018 season. Sales Unit 6-304 Steven A. Carter New Annual Leases Unit 9-106 Marie McCool Annual Lease Renewals Unit 13-305 Eileen Vincent Unit 2-205 Malcom Grover Please make the new people in the community feel welcome.

FYI From Rosemary Essen's Desk Many residents have asked about planning more day trips and gave me some suggestions. I reached out to Andy at Fun Tours and she has worked hard planning the following:

• Aug. 15 – Victory Casino Cruise (Port Ca-naveral) lunch, $20 slot play, free cocktails. $65.00

• Sept. 28 – Gulfstream Race Track Restau-rant, $15 slot play/$10 beverage credit.

$79.00 • Oct. 28 – Mount Dora - 33rd Annual Arts &

Crafts Fair $50.00 (Reserve early this will fill fast)

• Nov. 8 – Riverside Theater Musical-Hank Williams: Lost Highway w/ dinner at Gloria Estefan's Costa d'Esta Resort Wave Kitch-en. (Limited seating, reserve soon) $145.00 I believe Andy has touched on something for everyone. Remember, time flies, so it's never too early to reserve. Call Andy at Fun Tours (772-287-8200). Mention C.B., 20 reservations and the bus comes to us. Rosemary Essen

TALKING AMERICAN by one of the Brits Friends at home ask us, "Whereabouts do you go to in America?" "Florida," we answer."Must be great, where in Florida?" "On the east coast," we say and leave it at that. We are deliberately vague. We don't want other Brits to know where Circle Bay is. They might want to come here. "What's it like, where you live in America?" they persist. "What do you do? Would we fit in?" So we try another tactic to put them off. Oh, we say, we don't do much, just sit around, read and watch the awful American television, it's all pretty boring. Would you fit in? Well, maybe, we say, and we lie. Of course, you have to be old, and you have to be sober and dislike partying, go to bed early and not be the type that likes to eat out or socialize, play golf or go fishing, and perhaps be a

little conservative in your outlook. It would help if you have had surgery to talk about when you are in the pool; be prepared to discuss President Trump and pretend you understand American poli-tics - oh, and learn to drive on the wrong side of the road, that would definitely help. If you can do all that, well, you might be accepted, but it's a risk. It would also be an advantage if you learn American, we tell them, but that can be a chal-lenge. Americans think they speak English. They don’t. When talking about cars they use words like ‘hood’ when they mean bonnet, call the boot a ‘trunk,’ say things like, My daughter is learning math. They mean mathematics. In the restaurant if you want chips make sure you ask for ‘french fries.’ (their chips are our crisps.) If you smoke, we say, please don't ask, "Would you like a fag?" The reaction to such a friendly gesture may not be what you expect. If you want to buy biscuits at the supermarket look for 'cookies'. I am not on holiday here I'm on vacation. There are many more distor-tions but, we tell them, Americans have contribut-ed to our language. Added new words. "Wanna" for instance - well, it's quicker than saying or writ-ing "I want to," isn't it? And why say or write, "I am going to," when “I'm gonna” will do? Yes, we say, it takes dozens of visits over many years to learn the peculiarities of the Ameri-can language and it's not easy. The natives here really do think they speak English – it’s best to smile and go along with them and pretend you un-derstand every word because good heavens, Americans are so generous and friendly and so welcoming and they mean well, and yes, we say when they keep on with their questions, Florida is great, the weather is wonderful – take the children to Disney World, visit the Kennedy Space Centre, go to The Keys. But we don’t talk about Stuart, we never mention Circle Bay. We don’t want them here. Our little bit of paradise. I know this is selfish – but you should thank me, look what happened the last time an army of Brits invaded American soil. I'm outta here, gotta go to the store. Bye y’all! Gerry Thornhill

Soap Box Derby This event is held in Akron, Ohio each year for one week during the month of July. Hundreds of kids from age ten to eighteen congregate there to take part in the National Soap Box Derby. They have to take part in and win rally races during the year in order to gain points to gain a place in the National Race held in Akron. My grandson, Jamison Geisler, has gone to Akron for the past three years and this year he took third place in the National Championship Race. There was celebrating in Palm City Friday evening as Jamison and some of his derby friends met to congratulate him on his win. Jamison not only received a trophy but a thousand dollar scholarship. I watched the race live on U Tube and was cheering him on all the way. Ginny Gande
