In November 2012, Greg Wohead stumbled across Ted Bundy’s confession tapes online. He couldn’t stop listening. What began was an investigation of morbid curiosity: Why are we drawn to look twice at gory images? Why do we rubberneck at car accidents? And, in the case of Bundy, what is so compelling about serial killers? !The Ted Bundy Project is a solo performance about Greg Wohead’s relationship to Ted Bundy, one of the most notorious American serial killers. Bundy confessed to 30 murders between 1974 and 1978. He was known for being handsome, gentle and charming, which is usually how he was able to earn the trust of his victims.

A Contact Flying Solo Commission developed at Ovalhouse, The Orchard Project and Bristol Old Vic Ferment. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Following sold out performances at Contact, Mayfest, Ovalhouse and Forest Fringe (Edinburgh), The Ted Bundy Project is now available for touring.

A short trailer can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/93259154 A full video of the performance can be made available upon request.

“An incredibly powerful show… deeply ambiguous and disturbing”! Edward Rapley, Total Theatre

The Ted Bundy Project is an exploration born of a curiosity about the nature of charm, the label of ‘monster’ and the tension between attraction and repulsion.

This show is an attempt to raise questions using Ted Bundy’s confession tape, the collection of objects Bundy was arrested with (including a panty hose mask, rope and handcuffs), songs of the 70's and a wig.

During the performance, Greg interweaves his own personal account of discovering Bundy’s confession tapes (which led him down a rabbit hole to the darker side of the internet) with the vocal mimicking of the tapes themselves and a reconstruction of one of Bundy’s murders. Seated in a thrust configuration, the audience is confronted with the subject of morbid fascination and each other.

Greg wants to ask what we are capable of imagining and doing, whether we are who we say we are and how much is too much.

“A difficult slippery show that makes us face up to our morbid fascination…!not-to-be-missed.”!★★★★ Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

“I have seen the work at all stages of development, and have been impressed by Greg’s integrity, thoroughness and commitment. The finished work is now an unsettling, disturbing but entirely compelling piece of contemporary performance that asks awkward questions about what we are willing to watch, both online and ‘live’ in performance.” Matt Fenton, Artistic Director/CEO, Contact Manchester

“Greg Wohead is top of my list of one’s to watch. He’s an extremely gifted and capable performer, and this piece in particular challenges our own understanding of voyeurism and titillation, often in a very subtle way. Without uttering the ‘pushing boundaries of theatre’ adage, I would cite that his work will up the game of other artists, as well as leaving audiences enriched.” Emma Bettridge, Producer, Bristol Ferment
