Since it does not actually go into the po!>'lel>:lion uf the winning class, it has no tangible significance to u!l. The Coat's Ilead. which once was a true tradation nt Tech, and whose possession was highly prized and hotly contested for, has heen relegated tu a secondary position ll !:Gems a pity that the Insti tu te has allowed one of it!! trnrlitions. which w M compnmblc to the Rope P ull and the Pnrldle Ru~h . to hecome lost.

ln 1931. the Tech Council withdrew it from active competition giving the re.'lsun that only a few indi\<irluals knew where the llend was kept and the maJority ol the classes had no part in the competition This was probably the case, but wouldn't at ba,•e been better to modif)• somewhat. the rule~ governing its posses~aon than practically to destroy the whole tradition?

Interclass athletic competition is not dependent on the pre~entation or u prize tu the winner The plea11ure created ily flefenting the 1enm of the rival doss is reward enough.

The rivalry between the classes reaches its hi11hest points at the rope pull. the paddle rush, and an occasional closely conte~ted athletic match.
