NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] There's a place, and not so very far

from here...

NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] ...a very special sort of place, a one-

of-a-kind and never-ordinary kind of

place...

NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] ...where dreams come true and we grow

better every day.

NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] Now you know where it is - you've been

there before. Yeah, I know you know

the way...

NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] That's it. Right down there. That's

Strawberryland.

PUPCAKE Woof! ... (chasing butterfly) Woof!

Woof!

NARRATOR [STRAWBERRY] Well, come on. What are we waiting

for?

PUPCAKE Woof! Woof!

PUPCAKE (chasing butterfly) <PLAYFUL GROWLS &

BARKS...PANTING & WOOFING>

STRAWBERRY (O.S.) (calling) Custaaaard! Pupcaaaaake!

STRAWBERRY (O.S.) Hold on, you two!

PUPCAKE Woof! Woof!

STRAWBERRY Did you find any of them?

CUSTARD No, Strawberry - and I've looked

everywhere, (shoots a look at Pupcake)

unlike some dogs I know.

PUPCAKE <WOOFS, YIPS & PANTS>

STRAWBERRY We'll find some, I'm sure of it.

STRAWBERRY Feel that? <GIGGLE> They say when the

East Wind blows, it means your berry

favorite dream is about to come true.

CUSTARD (reacts to leaf in face) Ugh! ...

<lip shakes>

CUSTARD (skeptic) Is that reallllly true,

Strawberry?

STRAWBERRY Well... I believe it is!

CUSTARD (dreamily) Wowwww .... My berry

favorite dream ...AHHH!

PUPCAKE <WOOFS, YIPS & PANTS>

CUSTARD (tiny, pitiful) Oh, Pupcake, please,

watch out where....

PUPCAKE <playful bark>

CUSTARD (stained grunt)

CUSTARD (rolling downhill) ... I - ow! - am –

STRAWBERRY Hey, wait for me!

PUPCAKE <YELPS>

CUSTARD (squish-voiced) Uhhh, ‗scuse me up

STRAWBERRY (perplexed) That‘s funny. There

aren't any berries here either.

PUPCAKE <SNIFFING>

STRAWBERRY (OS) Hmmm... what could've happened to them?

PUPCAKE <SNIFFS>

CUSTARD (nervous) You don't think someone - or

something - is taking them, do you,

Strawberry?

STRAWBERRY I don't know, Custard.

STRAWBERRY All I know is, Strawberryland has

always been full of berries. There

have always been plenty for me and you

and all our friends...

PUPCAKE <SNIFFS>

PUPCAKE <PUZZLEMENT: Hm?>

STRAWBERRY Huh?

PUPCAKE <SHORT GROWL>

STRAWBERRY I think he hears something.

CUSTARD Yeah...me, too...a little voice inside

my head saying, ―Go home, Custard.‖

STRAWBERRY Hmmm...that‘s strange.

CUSTARD Don‘t leave me here alone.

PUPCAKE <WORRIED SOUND>

PUPCAKE <bark>

STRAWBERRY You startled us!

GINGER SNAP (motormouth) Well, hello, Strawberry

Shortcake, what're you doing, huh,

looking for berries I bet, me too, but

I'm not finding many, nope, slim

pickin's this year...sure is

strange...isn‘t it... where dya figure

they all went, huh?

STRAWBERRY That's what we're trying to find out.

PUPCAKE <SNIFFS...SNIFF! SNIFF!>

GINGER Sure looks like Pupcake‘s onto

something, huh?

PUPCAKE <SNIFFING - CURIOUS WHIMPERING> ...

ANGEL Hi!

ORANGE (O.S.) (quiet) Raspberry Torte?

RASPBERRY TORTE Hi, Orange Blossom!

LEMON MERINGUE Ginger Snap!

GINGER SNAP (motormouth) Well, well, well, little

Lemon Meringue herself!

ANGEL CAKE What‘s everybody doing here?

STRAWBERRY I think we're all doing the berry same

thing.

GINGER SNAP Which is looking for berries, am I

right? Only nobody can find any, am I

right again?

ORANGE (the naturalist) The vines should be

full this time of year.

ANGEL CAKE (over-emotional; on the verge of a

breakdown) Oh, but how will I bake my

EveryBerry Cakes if there's not a

solitary berry! <SOB>

RASPBERRY TORTE (disdainful) Hey, it's not the end of

the world.

ANGEL CAKE Oh, yes, it is.

ANGEL CAKE Ohh... <CRIES>

STRAWBERRY (V.O) I don't understand. This patch usually

grows tons of berries.

RASPBERRY Why would today be any different?

BERRY BIRDS (O.S.) <SQUAWKS!>

STRAWBERRY/ORANGE/RASPBERRY <GASPS>

CUSTARD (spooked) What was that?

STRAWBERRY Whatever it is, it's coming from over

PUPCAKE <barks>

GINGER/STRAWBERRY/ANGEL <GASPS!>

ANGEL CAKE That‘s who‘s been taking all the

berries

PUPCAKE <GRRR!>

STRAWBERRY Shoo, go away, Berry Birds!

PUPCAKE <WOOFS>

STRAWBERRY (V.O.) Go on!

BERRY BIRD (spits)

STRAWBERRY Get outta here!

STRAWBERRY There's nothing worse than a Berry

Bird. Those awful things will eat

every berry in sight.

ORANGE (sadly) Strawberry's right. Once Berry

Birds start on a patch, they don't

leave till every berry is gone.

BERRY BIRDS (OS) <SQUAWKS>

LEMON MERINGUE Y'mean, we could end up without any

berries at all...?

ORANGE Uh-huh.

ANGEL CAKE (getting emotional) But I have to

have berries for my caaaaakes! <short

sobs>

RASPBERRY Get over it, kid.

ANGEL You don‘t understand, Raspberry...

STRAWBERRY Don't worry, Angel Cake. We'll share

the berries we do have.

STRAWBERRY Let's see how many there are.

ORANGE Here‘s all I found.

GINGER Let‘s see what I‘ve got. Here you go.

ANGEL Here‘s mine.

RASPBERRY And mine.

STRAWBERRY That‘s hardly any.

STRAWBERRY What about Lemon Meringue? Got any

RASPBERRY TORTE (snotty to Angel Cake) Guess you're

gonna haveta start bakin' smaller

cakes.

ANGEL <Short Gasp>

STRAWBERRY (tries to be upbeat) Now, don't worry,

I'm sure I'll think of somethin'...

STRAWBERRY When things seem bad, you can make them

grow better, you know...?

RASPBERRY TORTE And sometimes, when things seem bad,

they get worse.

BERRY BIRDS <SQUAWKS>

HORSE <A CREAKY NEIGH> (flaps lips)

PIE MAN And I think ... I'll put the pie

factory right here.

PIE MAN (brightly) You can't stand in one

place or vines will grow right over

you!

PIE MAN (O.S.) We'll build a great factory and use all

the berries in the land to bake our

pies! Can't you just see it!?

PIE MAN It‘s no dream! I have a plan.

STRAWBERRY (O.S.) C'mon, Custard, c'mon, Pupcake!

PUPCAKE <PANTING> <SLURPS>

CUSTARD (groggily) What time is it anyway...?

STRAWBERRY Time to get our friends and get to

work!

STRAWBERRY There‘s a lot to be done to get a

garden started. These things take

time.

PUPCAKE <ENTHUSIASTIC BARKS>

CUSTARD <YAWNS> I‘m just not a morning cat...

PUPCAKE <ENTHUSIASTIC BARKS>

GINGER SNAP We're rarin' and ready to go,

Strawberry Shortcake, so what do we do

first, huh, where do we start?

STRAWBERRY Hmmm...

STRAWBERRY Well... here‘s a good place to start.

STRAWBERRY The berry first thing to do is to clear

out all these weeds and rock candy

rocks.

ANGEL CAKE Then let's get to it, whattya say,

guys!

RASPBERRY TORTE I say it's a waste of time.

ORANGE Oh, Raspberry. I'm sure we can do it--

and none.

STRAWBERRY We'll do it, Raspberry. We just gotta

believe we can!

RASPBERRY TORTE (quietly; to self) Yeah, well, I

don't believe.

CUSTARD Allright, Pupcake, I'll show you the

proper way to remove a weed. First

PUPCAKE <SNIFFS>

PUPCAKE <PANTING!><SMALL EXCITED BARKS>

CUSTARD Ahem?

CUSTARD Oof! <HEAD SHAKE>

ANGEL CAKE Don't you think this would be a pretty

spot for a pond?

GINGER SNAP Sure, and how about buildin' a big

bridge over it, huh, from here to here?

ORANGE And we can plant a row of orange trees

right along the edge.

LEMON MERINGUE And a nice comfortable bench, right

here. Because this is exhausting. <BIG

STRAWBERRY Okay, let's get the seeds planted!

GINGER (in unison) My very best most favorite thing to do.

ORANGE (in unison) This will be fun.

ANGEL (in unison) What shall I plant first?

LEMON (in unison) Oooh, dirty.

RASPBERRY TORTE How long'll it take to grow anyway?

STRAWBERRY In Strawberryland, things grow before

your eyes!

STRAWBERRY But you hafta work hard and give it

lots of love.

GINGER SNAP Hold on, Orange Blossom, this thing's

makin' an awful funny noise.

ORANGE (listens closer) I don't think it's

the wheelbarrow, Ginger Snap.

RASPBERRY TORTE Who's that..?

PIE MAN (O.S.) Good morning, children.

RASPBERRY TORTE (defiant) Who are you?

PIE MAN Who am I?

PIE MAN Why, I am the Peculiar Purple Pie Man

of Porcupine Peak, ya-ta da-tah ta-da!

PIE MAN (afterthought) <AHEM> And my Sister,

Sour Grapes.

SOUR GRAPES (sneers to Orange Blossom) What're

you staring at? Well, answer me.

GINGER SNAP Orange Blossom gets a little shy

sometimes, around new people.

STRAWBERRY I'm Strawberry Shortcake and these are

my friends – Orange Blossom, Ginger

Snap, Raspberry Torte...

PIE MAN Yeah, yeah, pleasure's all yours, I'm

sure.

STRAWBERRY Is there something we can help you

with?

PIE MAN You can tell me why you're on my land.

mistake. I'm berry sure this land

belongs to us all.

PIE MAN No, child, 'fraid not.

PIE MAN Here's the deed - and my name on it.

GINGER SNAP Peculiar Purple Pie Man of Porcupine

Peak.

ORANGE Ya-ta da-tah ta-da.

ORANGE/GINGER (small reaction) Huh?

LEMON MERINGUE Excuse me, Mr. Pie Man? You can't take

this place.

GINGER SNAP Our very good friend Strawberry

Shortcake is gonna grow a garden right

here.

ORANGE (shyly) It's her dream.

PIE MAN You don't say? She wants to grow a

garden? Why, that‘s just what (beat) I

want. And I want to grow it right

here.

SOUR GRAPES (patronizing to Strawberry) I guess

we'll have to make your dream our

dream, won't we, dear?

CUSTARD (angry aside to Pupcake) You hear

that? The nerve! Why, I oughta... No,

don't try to stop me.

PUPCAKE <PUZZLED WHIMPER: Huh?>

PIE MAN And now, children, if you don't mind...

SOUR GRAPES (nasty) ...get off our land.

PIE MAN Giddyap!

HORSE <RICKETY NEIGH>

STRAWBERRY But we‘ve worked so hard here...

LEMON MERINGUE What're we gonna do now, Strawberry?

STRAWBERRY (almost in tears) I d- I don‘t <sniff>

quite know.

STRAWBERRY <BREATHE IN AND SIGH>

ANGEL CAKE I'm awful sorry, Strawberry.

LEMON MERINGUE Yeah, me too.

GINGER SNAP (upbeat; cheerleaderly) Look, we'll

figure somethin' out, am I right?,

'cause we're gonna make Strawberry

Shortcake's dream come true, am I

right, huh, am I?

GINGER SNAP (uncertainly) I am right... right?

STRAWBERRY <SIGH>

ANGEL CAKE (dramatic) What're we supposed to do,

Ginger Snap? I need those berries.

ORANGE (correcting her) We all need them,

Angel Cake.

ANGEL CAKE (thoughtlessly) Yeah, right, except

them.

RASPBERRY TORTE (innocent) What's that supposed to

mean?

ANGEL CAKE (just as thoughtless) Well, you know,

you haven't been in Strawberryland as

long as we have.

STRAWBERRY (aghast) Angel Cake!

ANGEL CAKE I'm just saying that they shouldn't get

the berries we oughta get, right?

ORANGE (shyly aghast) Angel Caaaaaake!

RASPBERRY TORTE (to Lemon Meringue) It's kinda

obvious we're not wanted around here.

LEMON MERINGUE We aren't...?

RASPBERRY TORTE (to Lemon; firmly) No - we - aren't.

And we're going.

LEMON MERINGUE We are...? Where are we going?

RASPBERRY TORTE I dunno, but somewhere far from here.

STRAWBERRY Hey, don't leave, Raspberry. Hold on,

Lemon Meringue!

GINGER SNAP (disbelief) Oh, that was real nice

goin', Angel Cake.

ANGEL CAKE What'd I do?!

ORANGE Angel Cake, how could you!

GINGER SNAP Yeah, and that goes double for me!

ANGEL CAKE BUT WHAT'D I DO!?!

STRAWBERRY (quietly; to self) Everybody, come

back, pleeeeease...

PIE MAN At long last ...our garden will finally

grow.

SOUR GRAPES Well?

SOUR GRAPES Where is it? You said it'd grow before

my eyes. I don't see anything.

PIE MAN ARGH!! There must be a trick, a

secret...

SOUR GRAPES What're you talking about?

PIE MAN The child, Strawberry Shortcake. She

must know some trick, some secret to

making berry vines grow.

PIE MAN (darkly) And I'll find it out.

(sudden yell) YOU!

PIE MAN (O.S.) Come Here!

BERRY BIRD <SQUAWK!>

PIE MAN Find the girl and find the secret.

PIE MAN And don't come back till you have it!

STRAWBERRY Whatever else I do, I gotta find a way

to bring my friends back together.

STRAWBERRY Strawberryland's s'posed to be a place

where there's plenty of everything to

go around...

STRAWBERRY Friendship, too. It's a place to grow

better every day.

PUPCAKE <HAPPY BARKS>

CUSTARD (to herself) Can‘t we grow better on

this side of the river?

CUSTARD Whoa!

CUSTARD <SMALL EFFORT> Whew!

CUSTARD Don‘t need a bath. Uh-uh.
