President’s CornerFrom your President, Dick Smith
October was another great month for our club! On October 15 we had a great turnout for the Avenues of Service event in Hayward where Marie presented the Food of the Month Club. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Sunnyvale Pet Parade on October 25. Special thanks to Manny Macias and John Abe for “putting on the dog” for us and to everyone who pulled the “Dog Sled”. Let’s all plan to come out in November for the Sunnyvale Start Sunset Rotary Club on November 19th to show our support for our charter club. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! – President Dick
We welcomed California Assembly member Paul Fong on Oct 13

Women in RotarySince the 1989 Council on Legislation vote to admit women into Rotary clubs, women have been playing an increasing role in the organization. Today's leadership continues to encourage clubs to seek diversity by actively recruiting women. Watch a video, and read more about the history of women in Rotary.

Rotarians prepare for mass immunization campaigns in polio-endemic countriesRotary International News -- 1 October 2009
Volunteers play a critical role in world's largest global health endeavor(Evanston, Ill., USA: 30 September 2009) In the coming months, hundreds of Rotary club members from the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and Korea will join thousands of their fellow Rotary members and millions of other volunteers and health workers to immunize children against polio in India, as well as Nigeria and several other African nations.Through Rotary International, the fight against this crippling disease has been largely volunteer-driven. Never before has the influence of the private sector played such a critical role in a global public health effort. Read more about it here online at RI
