ODE TO JOE
We lost another friend today It’s just one price we have to pay.
Joe had been a long-time member
His smile and grace I’ll long remember
For getting old is a double-edged sword, Old age itself should be a reward.
But that’s a fact not always true
‘Cause it gets hard to lose your crew.
So as we lose them one by one You know our count-downs have begun
To spend my days with whit and grace
I’ll do my best to keep the pace.
With unknown days I have to spend. I intend to share them with my friends

Joe’s Special Request
It was Joe Czepiel’s request that members of the Sun Coast Cruisers bring their classics to his memorial service and several members were able to do just that. Joe’s latest purchase was also on display. We will miss Joe’s big laugh, his stories & his friendship.
Please keep Eva in your thoughts and prayers.
THURSDAY NIGHT MEET AND EATS
Come out and join us for our Thursday night “meet and eats”, 5:30 until. These get togethers give us an opportunity to socialize with each other while enjoying a good meal. We try to go to a variety of restau-rants, some on the north side of Wilmington, some on the south side, some pizza or sandwich places & some full menu. Yes, some of us are early birds but you can come at any time and join the gang. September 12th was my birthday and it was so much fun sharing a meal with my Sun Coast Cruiser family. Sandra

Sun Coast Cruisers Favorite Memories I don’t remember the date I became a member but I do know it was prior to the by-law change of February 2003. I was John Pennington’s apprentice for Back to the Beach 2004 or 5 at the then brand new Marriott in Carolina Beach. They were very accommodating, allowing us to have the show in their parking lot with an after-party in their meeting area. They were just starting out and had only a few customers. I was nervous and excited at the same time. I re-member John saying, when it comes to your turn, pick the best people you can find and just let them go. The cruises to Sonic. The cruise-ins at Pizza Hut. Cruising to Calabash to get some sea-food. The Christmas lights tours. Spooktacular and turkey raffles. My time with the no-go trophy. Accepting the fact that some of my friends drive Chevys. Probably the most rewarding thing for me was the adopt a senior for Christmas. For the last 3 years before the nursing home closed, I had the same guy. His name was Ivy. I used to see him on the city bus when I was working with the special needs folks. He was deaf and couldn’t speak and his handwriting was terrible but we communicated with gestures and “hand jive”. Members have come and gone but I’m truly grateful for the members who became friends and for those friends who became family.

Lake Linda Cars 4 a Cause Car, Truck & Bike Show
On August 31 a car show was held at Lake Linda in Hampstead. It was a fund raiser for St. Jude’s. Turnout was fantastic. At last count there were close to 150 entries all lined up around the lake. Brian White was there with his 99.9 truck and a number of Sun Coast Cruisers took part. It was a beautiful day & a beautiful location. Gene Podkova, David Smith & Billy Powell received trophies.

COME OUT and have A GREAT TIME at FRIENDS DAY
I would like to take this time and invite you to our “Friend’s Day.” This day originated one night while sitting in the living room of Clem & Linda Eubank. Clem was going through a battle with cancer. He said that “we should be able to use our old cars to get people to stop by the church.” So Visitors Day began. Originally it was called “Visitors Day” but to us you are more than a visitor you are a “Friend.” We invite you to come and enjoy some great singing, food and fellowship. Singing by Jeri & Larry Mercer. We will have a covered dish dinner afterwards, so if you would like to bring a covered dish please do so. You can join us inside for the service or you may sit outside with your car. If you have a home church join us after you get out.
