The Student Roar (Vol. 5) November Edition Witches Brew: A Review of Nimbus Coee A Review by Elsa Rosemary P.B. For L.A. Culture Nimbus Coee is a newer unocial Harry Potter themed coee shop in DTLA. It is located on 1115 S. Hope St. near Staples Center. It’s a pretty small place, but a great atmosphere, whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, this is a great place to go during your free time. The menu, although small, is great. They have many themed drinks and delicious pastries and such. For example, I got the Notorious Black which did not disappoint. If your not interested in any of the drinks they have to oer there are regular juices and other drinks available, although everything is a little overpriced. The decor is amazing, with a very witchy vibe and Harry Potter references throughout. Because of licensing issues, well known icons are used in place of portraits of characters from the series. The seating is comfy and is indoor as well as a couple tables out front. If you have read/watched the series, you know what the Daily Prophet is. Overall, I would definitely recommend Nimbus Coee to anyone in search of a good coee shop. I rate it: 8/10. 1 November Editors Ms. Holtzinger Pauline Brenot Jack Petty Jack Schugren Vanessa Tiguila Calendar for November November 1: World Vegan Day November 2: International Day To End Impunity For Crimes Against Journalism November 3: National Sandwich Day November 5: National Redhead Day; World Tsunami Awareness Day November 6: International Day For Preventing The Exploitation Of The Environment In War And Armed Conflict. Movie Review: A Silent Voice

By: Marrene Maglangque

I expected the film to be heartwarming and a bit sad. Before I watched the movie, I thought that it would be about the victim, not the bully. It turns out, I was wrong. The genre of A Silent Voice is Drama/Romance. While A Silent Voice does not have a direct message, it is full of emotion, and diverse characters. The plot of the film is about a deaf-mute girl who is bullied by a boy in grade school, then transfers to another school. A few years later, the boy who has been tormenting her, comes to her school and tries to apologize and make amends. The plot could be relatable to anybody who have been tormented. It is pretty easy enough to follow, a girl gets bullied, then the boy wants to apologize, and that’s just about it. The movie/book is believable because it can really happen to anyone in the world. The two main characters are Shouko Nishimya and Shoya Ishida. Shook is a shy, timid girl, and Ishida is kinda mean, but he is caring. They are voiced by Saori Hayami and Miyu Irino. I think they play a good role in the movie because they express their emotions in their character perfectly. I enjoyed the film because it made me feel emotions I never had. There were some bad points, like Ishida being a bully. My favorite part was when Ishida made amends with Shouko and they became friends. But overall, I enjoyed the movie entirely. I also cried. I rate this film: 4.9/5.

What is DIY? By: Vanessa Tiguila

Have you ever wondered what DIY is? Well, DIY stands for, it stands for “ Do It Yourself!” When you do DIY, it’s a time when you become creative and do whatever comes up in your mind. Some things you can do by yourself, with friends or with parents are making bird feeders, slime, doll houses and other fun crafts! Sometimes while doing DIY, there can be some problems like incidents that can be really dangerous. An example can be when you are working alone and need to use a glue gun. Some kids can get burned. That’s why sometimes you need a parent to do it with you. Another example that can happen if you do DIY by yourself is that sometimes kids can put something in the microwave like aluminum and think something cool will happen, but instead there might be a fire in your house and you can get very injured. If you’re with a friend you can easily make slime. Here are the supplies and recipe for making it. You need will need a bowl, glue, food coloring, shaving cream, and contact solution or laundry detergent. All you do is mix it up. Then you have slime. Another thing you can do with your parents is that you can make a doll house together. These are just a couple of things you can do that include DIY, but be careful when making things by yourself!

The Sea Dragon

By: Pauline Brenot

Chapter One: The Beginning

It was two in the morning when the sea dragon stuck. I was still in bed sound asleep when I heard rumbling. I sat up thinking it was a nightmare. I heard my mom screaming. I saw her head peek out from behind my door, but it was too late. It was the night before my 11th birthday. A huge wave hovered over my little house. Then I knew exactly what it was. A tsunami! I closed my eyes knowing these would be the last few seconds of my life; so I started breathing deeply. A felt a cool drop of water go through my shirt and drip down my back. It was dark, black even, all I saw was my blond hair, floating. I felt nothing, my feet, my arms, my heart, nothing. The night was completely silent. I didn’t really know what had happened. I called out for my mom, but no answer. The drop was still running down my back, but now it was about to drip off into the open. I looked up and saw a dim light. I moved toward it and I went through it.

I had teleported to a new magical land. Butterflies, flowers, bunnies, a rainbow, and best of all a sigh of relief. I thought about my life and that this was where you go when you die. Suddenly I saw a bush move and wiggle. I slowly backed away until something popped out. There standing in front of me was my mom! I quickly ran up to her for a hug, but I ran right through her. I felt a tear drip down my cheek and it reminded me of the water drop that had dripped down my back. Then I started to see all my family relatives that had passed away over the years. They didn’t look the slightest bit different.

“ Gramps, Grams, Uncle Max, Aunt Betty,” I said in tears.

Then someone came out who looked very familiar and suddenly I knew who he was, “ Dad!” I cried and then suddenly everyone disappeared without me. I was left there all alone. I moved on. I walked all day towards the sun, alongside the river, mom and dad had told me to do that if I ever got lost when I was little.

This story is to be continued…
