The strangers

The opening begins with this which informs the audience of the age restriction of the trailer they are about to watch. For the film “The Strangers” the BBFC rated this movie a 15.

It begins with the logos of companies who worked together to produce the film.

It starts with a long shot of a house and a stereotypical happy equilibrium. The Mise-en-scene portrays a happy couple who are staying in the house with the non-diegetic sound of piano music playing.

The Mise-en-scene then shows a disruption when the couple start to hear noises from outside such as the diegetic sound of swings.

A text card then appears on the screen reading “inspired by true events.” This creates a scary atmosphere because its happened, it has a psychological l effect on the audience as they know it has happened before and it could happen to them.

Other Tags are also used throughout the trailer

The next scene denotes a woman a room while she is unaware a man in a mask is standing behind her. During this shot there is no sound which adds suspense to the trailer.

The ending is then made up of lots of short fast shots grouped together which builds up tension in the trailer.

This build up then leads to a climax which is the final scare of the film. This is usually after the tag with the films logo has came up to catch the audience by surprise and give them a final scare.
