Ahhh...Summer time.

With how nice it has been in Las Vegas lately, I am a bit afraid of what we have coming heat wise this summer. Hopefully we won’t melt, but if so…it is always cool in our classroom! Summer brings vacations, outdoor enjoyment and hopefully more time spent in your sewing room as well. We have some great summer projects lined up for you and some pretty cool (no pun intended) events for you to enjoy. My top recommendation this summer is our exciting event, SewAPalooza! Don’t plan any vacations for the end of June as this is something you won’t want to miss! Three fun filled days of sewing, learning and inspiration all to help you grow in your craft. I look forward to seeing you there! This month also brings our 11th Anniversary. It really humbles us to think of where we started, how far we have come, and how your support has given us the opportunity to do what we love. We hope Quiltique will continue, for many years to come, to be your favorite place to be inspired as you all are our inspiration every day. Thank you.

What do you get when you cross you, our sewing community, the month of July and an Ice Cream Social? You get Quiltique’s Stitch Social! Join us on July 26th

from 1pm until 4pm, for a unique summer event here in the shop. We are inviting you, our customers to come be social and share your tips and tricks for sewing, your

local sewing related business, your guild event or some project show and tell with others. It will be like a live community billboard! Quiltique will share in the presentations, demonstrating products, sharing tips and talking about other happenings here in the shop. So what does ice cream have to do with all this you ask? Well…July is officially Ice Cream Month and it sounded like the perfect excuse to us! Ice cream sundaes will be served at break time between presentations for your added enjoyment. Interested in presenting? Then don’t be shy! You will be given 5-10 minutes to present anything you want to the group that is sewing related. There are a few restrictions and you must sign up by July 12th to get a time slot. Just stop in and ask for the details! The Stitch Social is FREE to everyone! You do not have to present anything to join us, as it is totally optional. We do ask that you sign up so that your seat will be reserved as space will be limited. Special shop discounts will be given just for attendees as well as a goodie bag just for you!

Come be social…Stitch Social!

GRAB YOUR HARD HAT BECAUSE QUILTIQUE IS

GROWING…AGAIN!It has been over 5 years since we got out the sledgehammer and started

breaking down walls and we are ready to do it again! It’s just too much fun! Quiltique will begin construction this spring for an additional 1600 square feet, taking over the Edible Arrangements space to the south. (Not to worry you fruit basket fans, Edible’s will be moving just a few suites down.) Our new space will include an all-new BERNINA and Koala sales floor, also adding more space for a growing Service & Repair Department. Plans also include a larger Clearance Center in our previous Gammill space, offering you a larger and more diverse selection of specially priced fabrics, patterns and more! But what we are most excited about is something you will not see…a spacious backroom. This expanded area will allow us to bring you more of the best quilt kits, block of the months and unique offerings we have come to be known for here at Quiltique, as well as facilitate our expanding online shop selections. Change is in the air everyone, and we couldn’t be more excited! We look forward to continuing our valued relationship with you, as you have made our growth possible over the past 11 years. We couldn’t exist without your love and support and we will always make sure you get the same from us.

IT’S BACK with new projects for 2014. Camp Sew What is a creative opportunity for your kids aged 10-16 to learn sewing and quilting on their very own sewing machine! They will learn their way around a sewing machine, learn and practice basic techniques, and make several finished projects including their first quilt. Our kid-friendly staff will lead students through a series of projects from the book “I Can Quilt”,

giving them an opportunity to learn basic sewing skills and practice what they’ve learned. In addition to skill-building projects, students will make a basic pillowcase, a chalk cloth placemat, and finish their week by piecing a simple charm-square quilt and tying the top.

INDIGO ON THE GO…INTRODUCTION TO SHIBORI1-Day Hands-On ClassSkill Level: All LevelsSaturday, June 710 am – 4:30 pmClass Fee: $55 • Kit Fee: $100*“Shibori” is a term that encompasses many different methods of dyeing patterns into cloth by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, and compressing, using an unexpected set of tools as “resists.” While the roots of Shibori are predominantly from Japan, many cultures have put their own twist on things. Now you can learn a modern and fresh approach to ancient techniques, and create your own collection of beautiful cotton Shibori fabrics. Along with our modern take on tools and techniques, we will also take a new look at indigo dyes. Hands On Hand Dyes will provide each student with their own set of reusable Shibori tools, dye, fixatives, detergent, coaching, and ample 100% “PFD” cotton fabric to explore each of the Shibori methods learned. This is a technique driven class! Panera box lunch will be available for $12. *Kit must be ordered by 5/24/14 at www.handsonhanddyes.com. ALL NEW – Modern Basics Classes at Quiltique!

We are happy to announce a few fresh, new basic classes to our lineup with a brand new teacher! Help us welcome local pattern designer Christa Watson to our team. She is a Las Vegas native who discovered quilting back in 1994. She recently fell head over heels for modern quilting after attending QuiltCon in 2013 (where her first modern quilt was accepted into the show). Since that time, she has

become a self-proclaimed cheerleader for the modern movement. Her modern quilt designs have been featured by the International Modern Quilt Guild, the Electric Quilt Company, Camelot Fabrics, and on the cover of Quilty magazine. What she loves most about modern quilting is the freedom to be yourself, and the philosophy that a quilt doesn’t have to be perfect in order to be both functional and beautiful. Christa lives in the southwest part of town with her husband and three children who all think it’s normal that quilting takes over a large part of the house! Check out Christa’s new Modern Basic offerings:

New EmbroideryBlock of the MonthMARIANNE

A 10-Month ProgramKit Only - $20 a month

Kit and Classes - $35 a month

The designs in this quilt are based on floral embroidery designs from Germany in the early 1930s. During that time linens were stamped

with embroidery designs so that they could be hand embroidered. These designs have been adapted as machine embroidery applique designs to create this jaw-dropping quilt. Each month you will receive the fabrics

necessary to complete a section of the quilt and will have the opportunity to join Lynne in the instructional class as she walks you through each part of this beauty. Depending on your embroidery machine model and your hoop size,

you will be single hooping, double hooping or triple hooping to create the blocks making this quilt an option for ALL embroidery machines and sizes! See page 14 for class date and times. Photos courtesy of Felicia Brenoe.

I AM A MAKER

(a.k.a Stitch Lounge…Unplugged!)Yes, that is right; we are unplugging the sewing machines for this new class! There are many of you makers out there who enjoy sewing and creating items by hand in addition to what you create by machine. We invite you to join us for some sewing time, together with others who enjoy stitching with just needle and thread. Bring your favorite hand sewing projects, whether it be hand piecing and quilting, English paper piecing, cross-stitch, hand embroidery, needlepoint, wool applique, beading or anything else that uses just a needle and thread to create. Share with others your passion for your craft with show and tell or a demonstration for the group! We will also provide a project for those of you looking to learn something new by hand. The class will have a new project every Stash calendar and you are welcome to join in creating the project or just work on your own. This class is all about stitching, sharing with others and a personal declaration of “I am a maker!” See page 14 for class project and date details.

Meet Our Staff and Teachers…Wendy Christenson

Wendy joined the Quiltique family in January 2013, bringing with her a wonderful attitude and infectious laugh. When you visit the shop you usually see her on the fabric side, but soon you will also see her in the classroom. We are pleased she has ventured into teaching and we are sure you will enjoy taking classes with her! Wendy, her husband and three of their four sons (one is in Utah) have called Las Vegas home since 2011. Wendy was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. She was a natural at sewing beginning at the young age of nine. Her 5th grade teacher was impressed with how she took to the machine and became her aide for the sewing class. “The fun part about sewing is picking the pattern and fabric, it’s very creative and I like that”, says Wendy. If Wendy is not sewing, she is enjoying many other things such as reading historical romance novels, watching Japanese Anime (cartoons) and partaking in anything to do with speed, whether it is watching Nascar, riding roller-coasters or four-wheelers. She is a talented, fun loving person who we are pleased to have as part of our Quiltique family.
