Name That Show!The Daum Museum is holding a contest to name the new show in the Freed Gallery. The winner will receive a family membership to the museum or a selection of exhibition catalogs! Anyone may enter the contest.Here are the rules:

1. Come into the museum and tour the Freed Gallery; look for a theme and think of a name for the show!

2. Enter as many times as you want; the entry box is located at the information desk in the museum.

3. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. March 1.The winning entry will be selected by museum staff and announced March 4 on www.facebook.com/daummuseum. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

“Proof ”The Theatre Arts program will present David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Proof” Feb. 20-24 and Feb. 27 to March 1 in the Thompson O’Sullivan Studio Theatre in Yeater Learning Center, Room 126. Director is 2007 Theatre Arts alumnus Trevor Belt. The play is recommended for mature audiences.

The play is about Catherine whose famous mathematician father has died. Over a long weekend, she deals with the arrival of her estranged sister and Hal, her father's former student who is looking for valuable notebooks her father left behind. Consequently, Catherine ponders a troubling question: how much of her father's madness–or genius–will she inherit? Regular performances will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20-23 and Feb. 27 through March 1. A 2 p.m. show will be Feb. 24; anyone 60 or older is admitted free. On Feb. 23 a dinner is offered in Yeater lobby at 6:30 p.m. SFCC students and employees receive free admission to the play. “Bully ”As a part of Diversity Awareness Month, the movie “Bully” will be shown at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Thompson Conference Center. Admission is free for SFCC students, faculty and staff.This documentary presents five stories of children and families who are affected deeply by bullying within the course of a school year. With intimate glimpses into homes, classrooms, cafeterias, and principals’ offices, the film offers insight into the lives of bullied, ridiculed children.

Diversity Awareness Month guest speakerSFCC students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a special presentation at 11 a.m. Feb. 27 in the Stauffacher Theatre by Amber F. Lancaster, assistant professor at University of Central Missouri in Counselor Education. Lancaster, a national certified counselor, will speak on cultural diversity. She has presented at state and regional conferences for mental health clinicians, play therapists, school counselors, and counselor educators in South Dakota and Indiana.

Grad Fair –be there!For students planning to graduate May 17, attending the Grad Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 6 in Yeater lobby is a must! Students can meet with staff to verify graduation, exit exam, and loan counseling; pick up pre-ordered grad packages, try on caps and gowns, place orders for grad packages; win great door prizes; network with potential employers; and visit with other agencies, colleges and universities. Think Pink! Bleed Blue! event on Feb. 13 was a great success. More than $2,650 was raised for the Susan O’Brien Fischer Cancer Center at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. The fundraiser consisted of a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle by the Spirit Squad, special pink T-shirt sales and a silent auction held during the Lady Roadrunners’ basketball game that night. On Feb. 20 a check presentation was made to Lisa Church, BRHC Foundation Executive Director. True Champions Stand UpAt 1 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Davis Center SFCC students, faculty, staff and community members have the opportunity to hear former MLB player Billy Bean speak on the long-term, damaging effects of bullying. Admission is free and open to the public, but tickets are recommended. Email [email protected] for tickets.Bean was a multi-sport high school phenomenon and valedictorian. He was an All-American college athlete, debuted with the Detroit Tigers and tied an MLB record by making four hits in his first professional game. Bean retired in 1995, and in 1999 he announced he was gay. He published his national bestselling autobiography, “Going the Other Way: Lessons from a Life In and Out of Major League Baseball” in 2004.

“Shanks to Shakers”Historian and author Mark S. Schreiber will share highlights from his years working at the infamous Missouri State Penitentiary in a free presentation from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Thompson Conference Center. He will also talk about his newest book, “Shanks to Shakers,” which documents rare, historical and collectible artifacts associated with prison life, including prison-made weapons and salt and pepper shakers sold in the prison gift shop.

Honoring their serviceOnce again, the SFCC History Club and Spirit Squad are sponsoring a free Veterans Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 11 in Thompson Conference Center A for any SFCC student, faculty or staff who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This special day was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919, as Armistice Day to honor those who died in World War I. On June 1, 1954, Congress amended the resolution to change the name to Veterans Day to honor all veterans for their contributions and sacrifices for our freedoms and for peace.

Check it out; use it to select spring classes, and track your progress!

Choosing the best of the bestDo you know an outstanding SFCC instructor, adjunct (part-time) instructor or staff member you want to honor? Student Government Association is now accepting applications for Instructor, Adjunct Instructor and Staff Member of the Year. All students, full- and part-time from any campus and online, can submit nominations from now until March 14. Work out before you pig out!Campus Activities Board is hosting a fun workout from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 in the Davis Center to burn some calories before feasting with family and friends during Thanksgiving break.
