the spectrum GREEN LIGHT FOR £10 MILLION MUSEUM PROJECT Work has already begun on the Central Library which is being relocated to the heart of Birmingham arts in the City Centre - Broad St. It will be near to the tourist attractions such as The Rep Theatre, Symphony Hall and the NIA. Cllr Martin Mullaney, said, “We are excited for the pros- pect of bringing in more tourists and showing them the history of this great city.” The Birmingham City Council have decided to do this project as a way of thanking the people of Birmingham and also to bring a sense of pride to the city. They also want to put empha- sis on the fact that Birmingham is a cultural city and introduce more people - especially the younger generation to come and visit the museum more often. The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery have introduced a ‘Walk through the times’ where they show the different fash- ions from the early 20th Century to the 21st Century. It shows iconic photos from Birmingham-born band UB40 from the visit of Bob Marley in the early 1970s. One Cabinet members says, “Hopefully having this will bring show the diversity we have in Birmingham and bring more teens in” THE Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is set to begin on the next stage of an exciting new wing, thanks to a major lottery funding boost. The building for ‘Birmingham – A City in the Making’ will begin in December 2010 with the new £9.7 million project set for completion in September 2012. Birmingham City Council Cabinet members have given the green-light to the next phase of the project, partly funded by a £4.8m by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The money will go towards the development of an in- novative and groundbreaking new wing of galleries which will put emphasis on Birmingham – A City in the Making which they hope to raise the profile of the city’s important global herit- age, with the new galleries serving as a landmark destination for visitors to the city who want an insight into its historical significance. Cllr Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport & Culture, said “I’m delighted we are able to move on with this exciting project which will transform the way we tell the story of Birmingham and its people. ITV recently announced that they have signed a new three-year deal for the controversial X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, the UK’s two biggest televi-sion formats. The renewed collaboration with Syco Entertainment and Fre-mantleMedia has also secured UK broadcast rights to the American version of The X Factor and America’s Got Talent exclusively for ITV2. With this new agreement going underway it means that it extends ITV’s successful nine-year relationship with Simon Cowell until 2013. Brit-ain’s Got Talent will return to ITV1 in late-spring 2011, and The X Factor in autumn 2011. ITV2 will also continue to broadcast The Xtra Factor and Britain’s Got More Talent.Simon Cowell said: “I am thrilled this deal has been concluded with ITV to enable our relationship to continue to develop. I am committed to making sure both shows get bigger and better every year. I have a lot to thank ITV for; they have been key in making The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent the UK’s big-gest television shows.”
