Hit the Trails On a BikeSmart BikeBikeSmart is back! We launched Stark County’s bike sharing network last year as a pilot program in partnership with Stark Parks and Canton Parks and Recreation. The response was overwhelming, so we’re back for second, longer season. Not familiar with BikeSmart? Here’s what you need to know.

You may have seen bike shares in New York, Chicago, Columbus, or Cleveland, but we’re a bit different. BikeSmart is FREE to all Stark County District Library card holders. If you want to check out a bike for a quick ride on the trail, a trip to the farmer’s market, or just to zip around town, stop in to your local library branch to set up your account.

Then look for the BikeSmart sign at these six hubs throughout Stark County:• Main Library• Canton Garden Center• Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake• Schneider Park• Jackson Township Branch Library• Southeast Community Center

Celebrate A Grand Opening and Explore the Future of The Smart Store®

Mark your calendar for August 13th. You won’t want to miss the celebration of the grand opening of our new Jackson Township location. Located in the Noble’s Pond shopping plaza, this will be the temporary home of the Jackson Branch for the next two years while we design and build a new permanent branch.

Nicknamed “the storefront,” this location will serve as a Smart Store incubator to test pilot many of the new technologies, features, and services we plan to roll out system wide. As one of our busiest branches, Jackson is a great location to gather feedback faster as we reimagine what it means to be a library.

Why replace the existing branch? In short, an extensive review of the facility by architects and engineers has determined that the current Jackson Branch needs major repairs due to water penetration and other “invisible” issues that have aged the building faster than its actual 25 years.

While the branch could be repaired, the cost to repair the exterior and renovate the interior would be nearly as much as building a new building. A new library can be designed to be more flexible in its layout, more economical to operate, and ultimately better serve the community for generations to come.

For the latest information on the storefront project and the new Jackson branch, visit StarkLibrary.org/jackson

Lobby will be open 24 hours and will have a book vending machine and pick up lockers (architect rendering).

This location will serve as a Smart Store incubator to test pilot many of the new technologies, features, and services we plan to roll out to all of our locations (architect rendering). 4 )

Never heard of a library without fines? Here at Stark County District Library, we’re reimagining what it means to be a library. It’s all a part of being what we call The Smart Store®.free

No Fines...

Breathe Easy!RETURN 24/7

Return items—even if you’re a little overdue—to any location day or night via our return boxes and drive-through windows. Even better, digital items return themselves automatically!

RENEW WITH EASENeed some more time? We’ve made it easy to renew items up to 20 times. Log in to our website, call us, or stop by any branch to renew. We’ll let you know if someone else is waiting for them.

REIMBURSE & OWNEver wish that you could keep an item you discovered here? Now you can! Just ask us and we’ll bill you for the cost to replace it so that others get the chance to discover it too.

You have enough to worry about in your day—the library doesn’t need to add to those things. So we’ve eliminated overdue fines. Why? Because we’re here to create access to ideas, not penalize you because your schedule took an unexpected turn.

Life happens. That’s why we offer three smart, stress-free ways to enjoy your library items:
