Gelande Trash and Recycling Facility UpdateSeveral years ago Durango Mountain Master Association partnered with Purgatory Resort to create a central re-cycling capability for the Resort area located at the south end of the Resort Gelande parking lot. In addition, this facility contains residential trash capacity intended for DMMA members with properties on the east side of highway 550. As a good neighbor and to meet obligations called for in the master development plan for the Resort, DMMA made the recycling capability available to nearby non-Resort neighbors and neighborhoods. It’s become clear that the use of the facility has broadened to parties and for uses that were not intended.
With that, the DMMA Board of Directors recently approved a project to upgrade the facility to better control access through improved fencing and access control systems. Access upgrades were undertaken this fall and will allow both DMMA members and Non-DMMA members’ access.
DMMA members will continue to have access to both recycling and residential trash services via a key punch pad. An email will be going out in the near future to owners providing the code. Owners will be permitted to share this access code with rental property managers or housekeepers that may need to take items to the center. If you need the code, please contact Stacy Crawford at 970-426-7201 or [email protected]
Non-DMMA members were notified in September that they would need to purchase an annual access card for $50 which allows them use of the recycling services only.
DMMA asks that all users respect the fact that this facility is not capable of accepting non-residential trash such as construction materials, furniture, electronics and the like. To date, some users have ignored these restrictions. The facility upgrades will include installation of video cameras so that violators of these restrictions may be pursued through applicable legal means.DMMA remains committed to providing these important services to the Resort community and appreciates everyone’s cooperation in using them in the manner intended.
We thank everyone in advance for their cooperation in helping us provide a clean facility while protecting our local wildlife.
