Raptors are at the top of the food chainThe health of raptor populations are an indicator of overall environmental health.

For many, observing and identifying raptors is a personal or spiritual connection with the natural world and the annual rhythms of nature. As hawk watchers we mark the turn of the season by searching the skies from our favorite watch sites.

Documenting annual trends is a vital first step towards protecting this seasonal passage. Consistent,long-term migration counts help us determine the impact of large-scale ecological changes. Forest clearing, global climate change, widespread pesticide use, communications towers, wind-turbine installations and ground, air and water pollution are among the many threats to this natural spectacle.

THE

OF

Our VisionTo inspire and unite North American hawk watchersto study and protect raptors and their habitats, thereby ensuring their continued health and vitality. We have a responsibility to preserve the spectacle of raptor migration for generations to come. Help HMANA ensure that the river of raptors will always keep flowing.

HMANA VOLUNTEERS

During each spring and fall hawk watches systematically observe, count and record migrating raptors. HMANA is the coordinating organization of this effort, establishing the standards and centralizing the data. This information base is used for scientific research, public education, and conservation.
