“I Will Not Leave You Orphans” John 14
Orphans, widows and strangers have a special mention in the Bible. To be an orphan, a widow
or a stranger indicated that one was on his/her own, with little or no social, physical, or emotional sup-port. It is often mentioned in Sacred Scripture, in various ways, that there is a special place in God’s heart for orphans, widows and strangers because they are so very vulnerable.
Jesus says to his followers that he will not leave them “orphans”. He promises an Advocate, a
Counselor, a Consoler to be with us “always”, to remain with us and in us. This is a closeness that is difficult to comprehend!
This promise of Jesus is made to us as individuals and as a Church.
When feeling alone and abandoned, recall this promise of Jesus: “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you”.
May the Risen Lord continue to bless each of you and your families.
Fr. Rossi

MAKE IT A HABIT!!
SSJ School News Behind the scenes at Saints Simon and Jude School, there are frequent meetings to plan and organize to keep our school moving forward. This week began with a meeting for a brand new effort… Our School Board Long Range Planning Committee gathered to begin the process for a 3 to 5 year plan. On Tuesday, our faculty met after school to plan for the 2017-18 school year and on Wednesday evening our Home and School Association held their final general meeting for parents and faculty. Special thanks to our outgoing Home and School Association Officers for their two years of service: Co-Presidents Theresa Hagman and Maureen Steinetz and Treasurer Lisa Baumann. Also thanks to Molly Kelly who will stay on as Recording Secretary and Megan DelFra who will stay on as Corresponding Secretary. Our week concluded with Spirit Day, a special SSJ tradition where students spent the morning outside going through fun activity stations. At the end of the morning, everyone gathered in the gym for the much anticipated 8th graders versus teachers volleyball game. Special thanks to Mrs. Susan Genuario who planned this wonderful day. And speaking of Mrs. Genuario, after this school year, she will be retiring. We extend our deepest gratitude and best wishes to Mrs. Genuario as Saints Simon and Jude’s Physical Education teacher for the past fourteen years. We are grateful for all she has shared with our students throughout the years and wish her much happiness and peace in her retirement. She will always be a special member of our SSJ Family.
Blessings,
Sister Regina Elinich, IHM
