WHAT IS THE “CHURCH COUNCIL”?

In order to help communicate the way Newnan FUMC is organized for

ministry, we have scheduled two informational sessions on the Church

Council.

The Council replaces the old “Administrative Board/Council on Ministries” model previously used in

United Methodist congregations. At these informational sessions, we will help explain the new model and how it

functions specifically here at Newnan FUMC.

The sessions will be held Wednesday, October 21 @ 6:30pm and Sunday, October 25 @ 12:00pm (these

sessions will be exactly the same, so there is no need to attend both).

We will provide locations in the next issue of the Shepherd. If you have questions you would like to submit in advance of the sessions, please send those to Karen or Maria by October 19 and we will do our best to address

them at these sessions.

Thank you!

WOMEN’S EVENING GALA

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17 | 5:30-8pm | $25

Guest Speaker: Kim Gravel from Kim of Queens. Kim was Miss Georgia in 1991. She went on to serve as US Goodwill Ambassador to Japan. She has taken her expertise and experience in the pageantry world and uses it to coach and train pageant contestants. She has a rare gift of encouraging and guiding people with loving directness. Kim finds the hidden gem in each young woman she works with and helps bring out those qualities.

It’s not about exploiting girls and making them into Barbie dolls…it’s good, wholehearted stories and life lessons mixed with humor and love.

You may have seen Kim on the Steve Harvey Show where she is a regular guest. Kim will deliver a message that will relate to young girls, 6th grade

and up, as well as women of all ages! Invite your daughters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, & friends! | Tickets are now available from the Grove Committee members and the church

office. THIS EVENING WILL SELL OUT SO GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Decorate a table for 8: These do not have to be formal dinner settings. Whimsical, holiday, casual, seasonal, and fun settings are encouraged. Contact the church office or Karen Oothoudt if you want to decorate a table. Buy a table: This means purchasing 8 tickets ($200) and inviting 7 friends to join you for dinner! If you buy a table, you must also decorate it. Buy individual tickets: Come and join others for this night of great food, entertainment, and fellowship. Tickets: $25 (available from the church office and members of The Grove)

Life Groups are small groups of people (12 at the most) who meet together on a weekly or bi-weekly basis throughout the year. While these groups may do Bible studies, read books, and discuss their faiths, the primary purpose of the group is

relational…to “do life” together and have those around you who can support, encourage, and pray for you.

Leaders are currently being identified and trained! Be watching for the launch of new Life Groups this coming November!

sessions to learn how best to lovingly support these families. This training is open to all

adults. Although you will be welcome to join the Cancer Care Ministry Team when the

encouragement, and compassion to others.

Training will last 5 weeks. Each session will last approximately 1 ½ hours and will include a

short DVD presentation, material taught by our own Cancer Care Ministers, and lots of

discussion.

STOP HUNGER NOW “THANK YOU!”

The Missions Team says "Thank You" to all who participated to help make Strike Out Hunger in

the Stop Hunger Now event a huge success (pictures on p.5) - either by your financial donations or by your presence on Friday

evening. We had over 120 people in attendance, ranging from age 3 to almost 90. We packaged 15,552 meals in 59 minutes, far surpassing our previous record! There was talk among the crowd of doubling (or tripling!) that number

next year. It was almost as much fun as dunking David!
