It is situated on the south bank of the River

Thames. The Globe Theatre was associated to

W.Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 using timber from an

earlier theatre, The Theatre. It was built by Shakespeare’s group of actors – the Lord Chamberlain's Men. On 29 June 1613 the Globe Theatre went up in

flames during a performance of Henry VIII.

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the

Globe Theatre. It was rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in

1644. The modern theatre is located on Bankside,

about 230 metres from the original site.
