    By Ron Rutz, Attorney

    Legal Correspondent

Last month, I discussed what needsto be done with probate, a simpleprocedure in Colorado used to settlean estate. This is the second part of

that column, showing what you need

to do after filling out four forms: JDF910; JDF 911; JDF 913; and JDF 915.

The forms are available at www.

courts.state.co.us/Forms/Index.cfm.After filing those forms with the countyclerk, the forms will be processed and

returned to you, along with seven certi-fied Letters Testamentary.

At that point, the PersonalRepresentative needs to do the

Information of Appointment (FormJDF 940), which notifies interested

parties that a proceeding has beenstarted and that a PersonalRepresentative has been appointed.

The original information is filed withthe Court, and the Personal

Representative sends a copy to eachbeneficiary listed on the Application.

A Notice to Creditors (Form JDF943) needs to be published in a news-

paper in the county in which the

    probate is being done.

costs about $50. After tpublished, the newspaper

Its becoming more common formature people to have minor chil-dren in their care.

So its important to know that ifyou receive Social Security benefits

and have minor children whodepend on you, you might be ableto receive benefits for them, too. This is true whether you receivebenefits as a retiree or you receiveSocial Security disability orsurvivors benefits.

To get benefits, a child musthave a parent (or in some cases agrandparent) who is disabled orretired and entitled to SocialSecurity benefits; or died afterhaving worked long enough in a jobwhere he or she paid Social

Security taxes. The child also must be unmar-

ried; younger than age18; or 18-19years old and a full-time student(no higher than grade 12); or 18 orolder and disabled. (The disabilitymust have started before age 22.)

Frank Stover owned the Stoverg Store (later City Drug) in Fortlins for 40 years beginning in4. He and his wife Mary built ae home near City Park that still

designed by Minneapolis architectMarion Alice Parker, and it was oneof the finest homes in Fort Collins inits time.

In 1882 Stovers drug store andother buildings were heavilydamaged by a fire. That prompted the

city to build the new water works todeal with such fires.

Stover was a city leader, and hisname is still engraved in the stoneabove the water works entrance.

drive on the scenic highwaybetween Saratoga and Cen-ial, Wyoming, over Snowy

Range Pass is a tradition for manyresidents of southeastern Wyomingand northern Colorado.

When the road opens onMemorial Day every year, snowbanks eight to ten feet high border theroad. This gives way in the spring toborders of the lily-like yellow Johnny

Jump Ups, the first flowers peepingout of the snow melt.

In summer the wild flowers carpetthe meadows. A picnic beside astream like lovely Libby Creek is anexperience that can only be describedas sensationalthe smell of coolmountain air combined with thefragrance of flowers; the sounds ofgurgling water; the taste of an oldfashion repast; and the sight of snow-capped peaks mirrored in sapphirelakes.

Watchful eyes can occasionallycatch glimpses of moose, deer andelk. A favorite hike is to the top ofMedicine Bow Peak, the tallest in therange, with a spectacular view. Its ahalf-day experience that is moderatelydifficult.

A good mountain bike ride is thetrail down six miles from LakeMarie through the French Creekcanyon. The creek is also a finefishing resource.

Trees killed by the pine beetleput a slight blight on the landscape.

But the glorious colors of fallfoliage temper that.

That night before I gave her the

Dad, it is with regret that I have

l you this way that Susie and I

Well come back to visit some day so

    you can see your grandkids.

Love, JohnnyPS, None of this is true. I just

wanted to remind you there are worse

things than the bad report card in my

    desk drawer.

A man on his Harley was riding

    along a California beach when

suddenly lightning flashed and, in a

booming voice, a genie said, I will

    grant you one wish.

The biker pulled over and said,

Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can

    ride over anytime I want.

The genie said, I can do it, but

    your request involves enormous chal-

lenges and will exhaust many of the

earths natural resources. It is hard to

justify. Take a little more time and

think of something that could possibly

    help mankind.

The biker thought for a while and

said, I wish that I and all men could

understand women. I want to know

how they really feel, what they think

when they give me the silent treat-

ment, why they cry, and how I can

    make a woman truly happy.

The genie said, Do you want twolanes or four on that bridge?
