Standardized Test Success!
Make your
teachers
proud!
Your child is gearing up to take standardized tests (STAAR)
starting next week!! Here are some ways to support your
child so they can do their very best.
Plan ahead. Have your tween post the school testing schedule on the
refrigerator and highlight dates for the ones they are taking. Then, try
to be sure they get 9-11 hours of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast on
test day to energize the brain.
Ease nerves. Talk calmly and positively about the tests to reassure
your middle grader that everything will work out as planned. Explain
that EFFORT is what matters most. Giving it their all. We tell our
MJH students on a day basis, “All we can ask of you is to do your very
best!” Testing is just another day. What’s most important is their learn-
ing throughout the school year. Testing day is a day for your child to
show what they’ve learned. It’s their time to SHINE! It’s that simple.
Also, attendance is extremely important. Your child will feel more
prepared if they’re in class each and every day leading up to the tests,
since teachers are reviewing material or giving short practice quizzes.
Follow up. After each test, ask your tween how it went. Which parts
did he/she find easier and which were more difficult? Reflecting on a
test can help them do better on the next one. Note: When you receive
the test results, go over them together. -Middle Years

MHS’s counselors are looking forward to working with you to ensure a bright future for your child!
Our Middle School #2 team finished 15th out of 46 teams, with a lot of those team members shooting career highs. The Middle School #1 team,
came in with high hopes trying to win both the State 3D title and the State Bullseye title. I have to say that when their team score posted, our jaws
dropped!!! They shot over 100pts higher than any score we had ever shot, posting a 3,371 and with that became the 2019 NASP Middle School State
Champions, to go along with the 2019 IBO/NASP State Champions!!!!!!!
Individually, Katie Preston and Mia Patlan tied for 2nd in STATE with a career high for both, 287. Renee Ford, finished 6th with a 285. Gaven Parker finished 4th with a 287, Kendall Penland 6th with a 286, Levi
Tanksley 8th with a 285 and Myles Capehart 10th with a 284. They set a MS state record score and are the only team to win both 3D and Bullseye
state titles in the same year. WOW! CONGRATS!
