FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK
Happy New Year and Welcome to 2015!
The Sales Office will be closed Thursday, January 1, 2015. Refuse pick up will be Saturday, January 3, 2015.
Another year gone… time is going by so quickly. We would like to thank all the resi-dents that sent us cookies, peanut brittle, cakes, candy, flower arrangements and cards to the Sales Office. Your thoughts and considerate gifts are greatly appreciated. We loved everything! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. It has been a real gift working at Gypsum Mills these past seven years and meeting all those that are so kind. From all of us in the Sales Office; We wish you and your families the very best for the Holidays & the New Year.
Winter Wonderland Contest: Judith Carkner of 6329 Murphy Drive, won $100.00 off her January lot rent for her children's wonderland exhibit. Thank you to all those that participated. The picture is on the gypsumcoop.org website. Congratulations Judith! Go to the Photo Gallery tab (2014 Winter photo contest) to view additional photos!
On Christmas Eve, we (Gypsum Mills Staff) hosted a wonderful Christmas Brunch at the Community Center for those residents that were alone or couldn't cook for them-selves. We would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers that helped us make this happen. You all did a great job putting it all together with us. We had 40 people on our guest list, including the volunteers. Some did not or could not make it. We really missed you. Maybe next year. Everyone enjoyed themselves. We had a delicious menu to choose from, gifts to give away, Christmas music to listen to and people to
enjoy it with. We hope everyone had a great time.
Toys for Tots: They were picked up December 17, 2014. Two full boxes of toys, books, slippers ETC. Great job! Picture posted on the gypsumcoop.org website. Thank you.
Lease renewals-Please return them as soon as you get them in the mail so that we can process each one. You will need to bring all the pages to the Sales Office. Do not mail them to our Corp. Office.
Resident Amenities: The Co-op Board has requested that Gypsum Mills help them out. They do not
have any volunteers that are willing to help them rebuild the (4) four bocce ball courts. The residents/volunteers help us keep the cost down, Gypsum Mills Office helps the Co-op Board with the materials needed. We are in the process of receiv-ing estimate quotes to make repairs or re-build the 4 bocce ball courts.
Other items that will need attention for 2015 & 2016: Waiting for estimates to re-furbish the tennis court, basketball court and the 2
shuffle board courts. Waiting for estimates to replace the two furnaces for the Community Center. Waiting for estimates to replace the two air conditioning units for the Community
Center. Submitted estimates to add fencing between Hunts Park and Gypsum Mills Estates.
Proposal has not been approved or declined.
3
Mind you, these items are not approved by any means: I will have to submit them to our Corp. Office for approval. These are some things we would like to see updated for you.
Winter coats that were donated from an anonymous resident. They were given to those that needed and appreciated them. Thank you for generosity.
Holiday decorations reminder: Please remove them 15 days after the holiday, weather permitting. If you are not able to remove them, please do not turn them on. Thank you.
Do you need help with your heating bills? Please contact HEAP 1-800-342-3009. For other issues: The Office for the Aging 1-800-342-9871.
Corrections to the December Scoop: I may have made a mistake in the December Scoop- (Taxes) I meant to say the 4 year tax freeze is on your home taxes only. Not on any of the other taxes. Sorry about the confusion. I also stated I have estimates for the Parking lot and Tennis Court. I should have stated the Parking lot and Basketball Court - Not the Tennis Court.
Lastly: American Flags: If you need to retire your flag due it being old or torn, and not sure what you should do about it? No matter what size they are, I can have them properly retired by the Boy Scouts if you bring them to my Office. Tom from Fred's Flags takes care of our big American Flag that flies high and free everyday. He is happy to take them from me.
Very Truly Yours, Debra DeMars

VICTOR HIGHWAY
DEPT. WINTER
REMINDERS
With the winter season upon us, it is important that town residents remember the following rules when snow arrives:
DO NOT plow snow in the road or across it. Keep it on your property and in an area that does not obstruct your view or that of drivers on the roadway. If you hire some-
one to plow for you, please be sure that they are aware of and follow these rules.
DO NOT let children play in snowdrifts near the road. It is difficult & often impos-sible for plow operators to see them.
REMEMBER there is NO PARKING on Town roadways from November 1st - April 1st, unless otherwise posted.

FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK ~ JANUARY 2015
Happy 2015! Wishing you and your families a Happy New Year filled with rich blessings and good times. I hope your Christmas season was filled with much laughter and cheer. Due to a shoulder injury I sustained in early fall 2014, I was unable to decorate my home for Christ-mas as I normally would. I was touched by so many residents asking why my typical holiday display did not happen this year. It’s a wonderful example of the type of community we have here; we know each other, we care about one another and we look out for one another. It’s one of the many reasons I am fortunate to live in Gypsum Mills, and I look forward to a brand new year filled with many fun times and warm memories with all of my neighbors and friends in our community.
To those of you that did decorate for the holiday season, I want to thank you for making our community look so festive and colorful. The winner of our Winter Wonderland contest is Ju-dith Carkner of 6329 Murphy Drive. Congratulations Judith and Happy New Year!
We have so many volunteers in Gypsum Mills that make our community events and clubs run so smoothly. Our volunteers never shy away from working hard and committing their time to make our community a better place to live. However, many have been serving as volunteers for years and in all fairness to them, it is time to pass off some duties to a new crew of volunteers. If you have a talent you are not utilizing, if you have even a small amount of extra time to donate to your community, or you simply want to make a difference in the community in which you live; please contact any member of the Gypsum Mills Board of Directors to find out how you can volunteer. Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve.
A new year makes me count all of my blessings and look forward to a brand new, fresh start and a clean slate on which to write life’s story. My Irish heritage makes me a believer in tra-dition and at times yes, even superstition. In Ireland it is believed that the kind of new year you will have is dependent upon whom walks over the threshold of your doorstep first. If it is a handsome, dark haired, tall young man, it is believed you will have a new year full of much luck and good fortune. But, if it is a blond or red haired young woman, Irish custom believes your new year will be full of grief and bad luck! And, if you are a single woman, place some mistletoe under your pillow. It is a long held custom that doing so will bring true love to you in the new year. When that happens, you can find me and thank me for sharing that tidbit with you!
Count your blessings instead of your crosses... Count your gains instead of your losses. Count your joys instead of your woes... Count your friends instead of your foes. Count your smiles instead of your tears... Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full times instead of your lean... Count your kind deeds instead of your mean. Count your health instead of your wealth... Love your neighbor as much as yourself.
May you have a new year full of all that is good. Thank you for a wonderful 2014. I look for-ward to a blessed 2015 shared with all of my family, friends, and neighbors in Gypsum Mills.
Fondly, Hugh N. Crowley, President Gypsum Mills Cooperative Board of Directors

Pedestrian Safety Information when walking on road ways
Since the chances of being struck and killed as a pedestrian increase by 1100% after dark, according to the National Safety Council, you should take advantage of the Fed-eral Highway Administration's statement that reflectorization has been shown to in-crease the visibility of a pedestrian by a factor of five. In the US, over 60% of pedestri-an accidents and deaths occur in the dark says the National Safety Council.

"In a survey of safety specialists, reflectorization countermeasures were identified as having the highest overall rating as a means for reducing school children accidents during darkness" - U.S. Department of Transportation.
"A person dressed completely in black wearing a thumb sized reflector is detected at longer distances than a person dressed completely in white" - Federal Highway Ad-ministration.
"8 out of 10 drivers who struck people at night didn't see them. 90% of motorists who hit people at night are not ticketed for any traffic violations" - Indiana State Police Re-ports.
Studies have shown that pedestrians walking along a road in dark clothing at night are first seen approximately, 55 feet away giving the driver less than one second reaction time. A driver traveling at 60 mph needs over 260 feet to stop. The chart below repre-sents the distances at which a driver will FIRST SEE a pedestrian depending on cloth-ing color. - Cornell University Cooperative Extension.
