A Message from the Dean
This academic year, we are excited to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the School of Law. We have several sesquicentennial events planned to
highlight the talent of our students, faculty, and alumni, both in St. Louis and around the world. As one of the nation’s top law schools, Washington University Law provides a world-class legal education. Today, some of the best and brightest students in the world compete for admission to our exceptional school, and our student body consistently ranks among the strongest in the country.
A great law school makes an impact through its students and the work they do throughout their lives. Our students—as lawyers, business professionals, public interest advocates, and individuals—will leave the law school with the capacity to shape and influence our world. We share a responsibility to help them improve and excel each and every day, and the Law Annual Fund plays a vital role in making a premier legal education affordable for our outstanding students.
We are pleased and proud that The Honorable Tatjana Schwendinger, JD ’72, and Bob Schwendinger, JD ’71, have established the Schwendinger Sesquicentennial Scholarship Challenge to encourage others to make a scholarship gift in honor of our 150th anniversary. I urge you to show your support and participate today. Your contribution will help Washington University Law continue to deliver an outstanding legal education to the leaders of tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Nancy StaudtDean and the Howard & Caroline Cayne Professor of Law

The Schwendinger Sesquicentennial Scholarship Challenge
Three generations of the Schwendinger family are Washington University alumni. The Honorable Tatjana Schwendinger,
JD ’72, and Bob Schwendinger, JD ’71, are longtime advocates of the university and have played a key role in the history of Washington University School of Law. In honor of the law school’s 150th anniversary, Tatjana and Bob have generously established the Schwendinger Sesquicentennial Scholarship Challenge to benefit law scholarships. The Schwedingers hope their challenge will inspire other alumni and friends to make a gift in support of Washington University Law’s exceptional students and commemorate the school’s sesquicentennial year.
About the Schwendingers
Bob Schwendinger, JD ’71, formerly with Armstrong Teasdale, LLP, provided strategic advice and legal representation for hospitals, health systems, physician groups, providers, and for-profit and nonprofit corporations in his role with the firm’s Health Care Practice Group.
Tatjana Schwendinger, JD ’72, has served as an administrative judge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) since 1983 and has held the title of supervisory administrative judge since 1995. Judge Schwendinger received the Washington University School of Law Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011.
The Schwendingers are Life Members of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society, Eliot Society Patrons, and Scholarship Initiative and Eliot Committee members. They are also annual scholarship donors and have established a bequest commitment to fund an endowed scholarship at the law school.
