2016 saw a slight increase over the previous year in wagering and total handle for the track:

Total Handle Average Handle Live and Internet Wagers2016 (26 days) $988,467 $38,017* $1,308,1412015 (25 days) $975,977 $39,039 $1,263,607

*The small drop in live handle can be atributed to inclement weather early in the meet.

On September 2, the $16,500 Sales Stakes for two year olds saw Uniter owned by Litle Z Racing, trained by Mike Taphorn and ridden by Daniel Gopie led from start to inish to capture the $7,500 irst prize. The Derby atracted a ield of nine which included two horses from Manitoba, three from Canterbury Downs in Minnesota along with four from Marquis Downs. The Minnesota invader, Trill Point, owned by Pink Cloud Racing of Saskatoon, trained by Colleen O’Hagan and ridden by Daniel Gopie stalked the leaders early then drew clear in the inal furlong to capture the 56th running of the Derby. With the winner’s share of $11,800 Trill Point’s earnings for the year totaled over $26,000. Saskatchewan born Tim Moccasin led all jockeys with 33 trips to the winner’s circle, while Ray Gardipy led all trainers with 27 victories.
