Since 2014, Samaritan has used ACORN (A Collaborative Outcomes Resource Network) to measure client progress. At each counseling session, our clients complete a brief survey on their mental state. 2017 results show that Samaritan’s counseling quality ranks 6th out of 64 like-sized counseling centers nationwide.

You hit it out of the park for those we served in 2017. Thank you!

That’s the feeling we hope you’ll have as you read what you accomplished in 2017.

As a friend of Samaritan Counseling Center, you helped strengthen nearly 6,000 kids in 2017. They each received a free mental health check-up through our Wellness Screen program.

You also were there beside 1,307 counseling clients as they grew stronger through therapy that connects mind and spirit. That includes clients in financial need, and clients who speak Spanish.

What would “Thank you!” sound like coming from 7,307 people? AMAZING, we think. You deserve to hear their roar of gratitude for your amazing support. Thank you!

In December 2017, United Way Fox Cities renewed its financial support of Samaritan Counseling Center for the first time since the 1990s. United Way Fox Cities joins United Way of New London in making counseling more accessible to all through Samaritan.

From 2016 to 2017, Samaritan doubled the number of Spanish-speaking clients served and successfully discharged from counseling. The launch of Centro Esperanza, a collaboration with NAMI Fox Valley, gave 240 Latinos access to culturally and linguistically competent support, education and treatment in 2017.

“Maria” had a tumultuous life. Her mother abandoned the family, leaving teenage Maria and her two sisters to be raised by their father.

Maria self-medicated her anger and pain with alcohol and marijuana. She tried counseling, but she speaks Spanish – so she and her English-speaking counselor struggled to connect.

Maria eventually made her way to Samaritan and Centro Esperanza, a collaboration with NAMI Fox Valley. At Centro Esperanza, she bonded with her Spanish-speaking counselor.

Maria’s counselor helped her see that, beneath her rage, she was anxious, depressed and hurting. Maria found healthy ways to cope with her pain.

Maria got back on track at school. She left drugs behind. She treated her friends
