40s to 60s met at the home of the new leader, Ian Clark. Renamed “The Keen-agers”. Wednesday 16th February 2005 Sister Rose Roberts Promoted to Glory from Inala Nursing Home. Service held in the Citadel on Monday 21st February conducted by Major Howard Davies. Brother Mervyn Roberts is step-son and Brother Roger Timberlake lived with the Roberts family in UK for some years after his mother died. 18th 19th 20th February All-In Berocca Weekend “Camp” was held at the Geelong Conference Centre. Guest Leader Dr. (Captain) Alan Harley. The Dr is the Vice Principal of the College of Further Education in Sydney and Holiness Teacher for the Australia Eastern Territory.

The Centre was booked out by Camberwell and others travelled on the Saturday and Sunday to attend. Excellent teaching, and worship. On the Saturday evening, Major Mylechreest in the session “Camberwell: where are we going ? outlined planned changes to our meetings this year as a result of review of worship services . This was the outcome of the NCD program which revealed for three consecutive surveys that Inspiring Worship was Camberwell’s lowest quality characteristic. Following much discussion with a small group, the 9:30 am meeting , whilst retaining elements of reflection, will become a more family focused meeting and provide time for kids to come to worship with their parents for the first 10 – 15 minutes before going to primary and K4C.

The 6 pm meeting will become a wholly contemporary meeting to which all ages are invited, but that it will be intentionally pitched at the under 30’s and be outreach focussed. The contemporary worship band will be the primary musical component of the meeting. Band and Songsters will not be utilized in present form at this meeting. Major Mylechreest made the decision to move at this time rather that pass responsibility to incoming officers who would take many months to be able to make a decision on the matter. Present C Os can now be part of making the changes work, knowing the Corps so well. The Band and Songsters were informed of the changes at their practices last week. Naturally the changes will bring pain to many and a sense of relief to others. Time will tell of its success. March. It was decided that the Songsters would not be required on Sunday evenings , but would present two messages in the 11 am meeting. The Band would continue to be used in the 6 pm meeting, but would sit in the congregation and move to the platform as required. 19th March Marriage of Joyce Crabb and Colin Woods was conducted in the Citadel by Majors Peter and Val Mylechreest. Brides sister, Mrs was the bridesmaid and Wally, brother of Colin was best man. Colin’s son, Jonathon leads The Transit Brass band and put together a wonderful group of brass musicians to provide music for this occasion, together with Bruce Dench on the organ.

Sunday 20th March Palm Sunday. 10 am Combined Meeting Excellent attendance, many groups took part, Child Care, YP, YP Timbrels recently formed, YP Band. Many parents and grandparents with cameras. Finished at 11 then morning tea.

Friday 25th March Wonderful meeting on Good Friday 10 am. A number of people came and stood at the cross, one lady, a first time decision. She and her husband are attending Alpha.

Sunday 27th March Theme from now to Pentecost will be “Images of God” Still Small Voice Fire Water Dove Wind Blood and Fire. CO s are excellent in preparation and development of themes. Great continuity. Saturday 23 April Inaugural Men’s Breakfast. Ray Walker, former VFL footballer, commentator, businessman and Festival Victoria organiser was guest speaker. About 55 present. Great start. Saturday 14 May Autumn Serenade. Presented by the Songsters and featuring RAAF Central Band. Wonderful night, 400 present approx. Many new faces in the congregation. Sunday 29th May Red Shield Appeal. Total 440,389.30. Major Winsome Mason was organiser, catering handled by Doreen Maunder, and very well done too if I may say. Sunday 5th June 3 pm. Retirement meeting, Major Sheina Davies, conducted by Major Peter Mylechreest. Major has served for 41 years as an officer in UK, Southern Africa, Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Australia. Band and songsters on duty. Many messages received from around the world. Tuesday 12th June. The lovely gum tree at the rear of our buildings had to be laid to rest as a result of damage caused to the roof and curbs and paving. Saturday 18th June 8 pm. Combined Band Programme, Camberwell Citadel Band and The Transit Band (formerly the Tramways Band) led by Jonathon Woods, son of Retired BM Colin Woods now of Camberwell. 80% of the congregation were not SA background. Wonderful music. Visitors played Dean Goffin’s Symphony of Thanksgiving and Eric Ball’s Resurgum among others. Sunday 19th June 10 am. Another combined meeting, with all young peoples sections taking part. Excellent attendance with many parents etc of Child Care children. YP Band now under the leadership of Stefan Hill are doing very will with about 8 players. Also a learners group led by Norm Gale. YP timbrels number about twenty, well fitted out in SA T shirts with Red Shield. Led by Mrs Andrea O’Neill. A wonderful resurgence of the timbrel.

Rodney O’Neill retired this week after 7 ½ years as Director of Welfare. A tireless worker for those with physical needs. Rodney is not slow to assist with social and spiritual help where possible. His position is to be taken by Craig Campbell in addition to his present duties of Corps Administrator. John Waite and Nyala Millar were married on 10th June by Majors Peter and Val Mylechreest. They have been regular attenders for many years and have a New Zealand background. They have been friends for many years. Sunday 26th June Farewell meetings for Majors Peter and Val Mylechreest after 5 ½ years. Majors Bob and Valis McDonald also leave today to take charge of the corps at Victor Harbour, SA. The 11 am meeting incorporated the dedication of Kyenan Charles McCorriston. 30th June. Transfer of Bethany (and most other Aged Care Centres) to RCA, a new company. A sad day for many after approximately 80 years of dedicated service by many SA Officers and staff. Sunday 3rd July. Installation of Majors Darvin and Betty Carpenter as our Commanding Officers by CS Colonel John Jeffrey. A good start. Mrs Carpenter showed slides of the family on the large screen, and Major Darvin spoke on holiness or halfliness and made it clear he would be giving teaching on this subject for some weeks. Excellent teaching.

The evening meeting will continue as usual at least for the time being. Band and songsters not usually required. 7th July. 50 people killed in a terrorist bomb attach on three subway trains and one double decker bus in London today. 700 injured. Everyone nervous, when will it come to Australia. Later discovered the attach was the work of suicide youths of Pakiston/Muslim background but English citizens. Donations sought and given at the Corps. Later Major Dean Ruthven was sent to Sri Lanka for six months to assist with redevelopment. 28th – 30th July. A highlight of the year was the presentation of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by members of the Corps. The production was a dream of Philip Smith and much effort , especially in the last six months or so. Approximately 300 people attended each night. The production was superbly given, wonderful music, acting, accompiament , lighting, sound etc. Brochure which includes photographs is with this CD. And two CDs with photos of the cast. 18th August Funeral service for Mrs Margaret McFarlane held at the Citadel conducted by Major Howard Davies. Mrs McFarlane and her husband Bob were very active

and committed soldiers from 1960’s to mid 1990’s when they moved to Mt Eliza to be near family. Saturday 3rd September. 3M Training featured Mrs Major Betty Carpenter leading a session entitled “Praying with a Purpose and a Plan.” Approximately 20 folk attended this excellent presentation. Sunday 11 September to 18th September 24/7. Journey of non-stop prayer for our corps .this has now been an annual event of our corps. During October the corps has assisted in the raising of $10,000 for Opportunity International to assist development of industries in third world countries. Friday November 4th at Waverley Temple and Celebration Meeting was held with Commissioner Israel Gaither , Chief of the Staff from IHQ leading. During that meeting John Dalziel received the Order of the Founder from the Commissioner. The Order stated “Presented to John Dalziel Awarded for his exemplary Salvationism and his spiritual leadership as a local officer of outstanding influence. Of impeccable moral character, John Dalziel has been the face and voice of The Salvation Army in the Australian media. In clearly delineating the ethical standards and compassionate ministry of the Movement, he has enhanced the reputation of The Salvation Army with the Australian community at large. “ John and his wife Christine came to Camberwell in 1963, transferring from Malvern Corps as they had purchased a house in Camberwell and felt they should attend the nearest Corps. John was appointed YPSM in June 1963 Corps Cadet Cousellor (with Christine) January 1974 CSM 13 October 1983 to 20 December 2004. For a number of years John has been the media representative for The Salvation Army , Australia Southern Territory. During this time he has been on TV, radio and the newspapers on hundreds of occasions, making forthright statements. He is widely sought on many social issues. The highlight would be a full Four Corners program investigating alleged abuse of boys in our children’s homes many years ago. John expressed the sincere regret of The Salvation Army that these events had occurred, and had done his homework most thoroughly. The now elderly men concerned had been offered and given counselling and in some cases funds had been paid to victims to assist recovery. John was absolutely brilliant.

At the same meeting Commission John Clinch, a long time soldier of our corps was presented with the Order for Exceptional Service for his administration of the Overseas leaders Training since retirement and his wonderful international service. 9th November 2005. Service of Thanksgiving for the Life, Ministry and Service of Lt-Col.Peter Rigley. Conducted by Commissioner Brian Morgan. Three halls full. Great celebration. Band on duty. Colonel retired in January 1993 from the position on the first cabinet as Secretary for Programme. The Colonel had been unwell for two years. A great encourager in the Corps , especially to the young people. Craig Campbell has decided to leave the position as Corps Administrator and take up a similar position at Brunswick Corps where he attends on Sundays. Roger Timberlake has agreed to fill in for the time being on a voluntary basis, as has Rodney O’Neill as Community Services Director. Sunday 4th December 7:30 PM. Retirement Meeting for Major Howard Davies led by CO Major Darvin Carpenter. Daughters spoke and the family, about 12 presented a lovely song, O I want to be like Jesus in my heart, with violin, cello, cornet, trumpet and the rest singing. Howard wrote the words and music of the verses. Major Brian Golding gave a tribute and then presented the Retirement Certificate.
