OUR STUDENTS

Each year, the VFW sponsors a youth essay competition that gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. This year's theme was "America's Gift to My Generation." Karolina Mazur, one of our amazing 8th graders, won �rst place at the Local Post 521, the District Level, the State Level, and FIRST PLACE at the NATIONAL LEVEL.

We are incredibly proud of Matthew Welling (8th grade) and Genevieve Matanoski (4th grade) for receiving the Knott Scholarship Award. Matthew

is the recipient of the Secondary Knott Scholarship and he will be attending Loyola Blake�eld for high school. Genevieve will be attending Sacred Heart

School for the next four years.

Middle school students study the nearby stream every year to determine the physical, biological, and chemical characteristics of the

stream. Students go down with their science classes 3 times per year and record data each time. At the end of the season, this information

is reported electronically to the Department of Natural Resources. Every school that reports stream data is invited to the statewide

watershed summit in Annapolis in May. This year, Sophia Lange, Mary Witt, Sara Moran, Dade Prince-Shittu, Tristen Rabor, and Luke Smith

presented their �ndings to several state and local legislators. They were rewarded for their e�orts by being invited on a bay �eld trip

with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Our middle school choir was invited to join other area school choirs to be a part of Today's 101.9- Baltimore- A Musical Baltimore Christmas.

RECENT IMPROVEMENTSAND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The technology infrastructure upgrade was part of the total project that resulted in the Knott Foundation awarding us $76,000 for

300 Chromebooks and charging carts. If we had not funded the technology

upgrade ourselves, it is extremely unlikely that the Knott Foundation

would have awarded us the full grant request amount,

if any at all.

Purchased new math textbooks for the 2018/2019 school year.

These new textbooks align with the new math curriculum

and will be in the hands of students in grades

1 - 5 in September

Purchased relevant class-room materials including the funding

of Discovery Education Streaming Plus, a virtual treasure trove of curriculum

based learning videos, digital projects and lessons to support high levels

of student engagement and comprehension

Paid for a portion of the newly paved parking

lots

Made an $8,000 donation to the

Endowment Fund

Gave our teachers a 2 1/2% raise

this year which directly relates to our teacher

retention e�orts.

Purchased new iPads for the Kindergarten classrooms
