Before they met, Ann had toured the west coast, pedaling from Gearhart, Oregon to San Francisco in 1970, and Mac had ridden from Bogota, Columbia to Lima, Peru in 1972, and across the United States with his brother Jake in 1975. Since their marriage in 1977, Mac and Ann have toured Alaska, Western Canada and the Yukon, the Pacific Northwest, Eastern and Western Europe, and the Northeast coast of the U.S. eir most recent adventure in October and November of 2015 was a 1,500 journey half-way across the U.S., from San Diego to Austin, Texas. Ann is a CPA and retired in May 2015 aſter 17 years as CFO/Finance Director at Alaskan Brewing Co. She returns to the work world this year in order to finance her bicycling habit. Ann says her new motto is “work to bike, bike to eat.” She has been a member of Rotary of Juneau since 2006, serving as President in 2012-13. She is currently District 5010 Admin Chair, serves as Treasurer on the Perseverance eatre board, and sits on the board of the Alaska Committee. Mac was born and raised in Juneau and retired from the Alaska Army National Guard in 2008. eir three grown children, Luke, Lynn, and Nellie Metcalfe all live in Juneau.

Ann and Mac Metcalfe have shared a life of bicycle touring for 40 years. Their first tour together was in 1976, over the unpaved Haines Highway to Whitehorse, where
