On tap: game night (cards, monopoly, chess tournament, basketball…), welcome packets, etc. We also heard from Sharon Mills of Sienna Literacy (Evergreen/6 Mile area) who shared stark statistics on the devastating impact of illiteracy; to volunteer as a tutor call 313-532-8404. Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland shared news of plans to repave Fenkell Avenue. Woo Hoo!! Thank you also to Chelsea Neblett who shared important information on the Special Assessment District (S.A.D.).

She’s also keeping on top of code enforcements and violations. She and Roland and Tracey met to discuss upgrade and repairs to the playground. A Patronicity campaign is forthcoming. Stay tuned. If you notice the sprucing up of the flower bed outside the community house – well, thank Beverly and Roland!! Dexter and Richard are working hard to bring Wi-Fi to the community house. Gloria is making moves with the walking program, Pilates, and other programs. Roland, Michael and I worked in tandem with the Park Players to clean the NRPCA garage. Some of this is hard labor (LOL) but it’s worth every moment to make our neighborhood one of the best!! Please know that although we do this willingly and from the heart, we need help. Please contact any Board member to volunteer. THANK YOU NRPCA Board Members for all you do!!!!

Staff ActivitiesNicole Daniels is the NRPCA Building Manager. If you have rented the facility or otherwise had business at the Community House you have met Nicole. She is the face of the Association and we are thankful for all she does and how well she does it. Nicole recently moved into a new office in the CH new addition. With every change, there are snags so please be patient as we work out bugs in our phone and IT systems. Thank you Nicole!!! And thank you Michael for helping clean out the garage (above and beyond)!!

Sincerely, Erma

It's a Wonderful Life - On the Air by Peter Church, will be the Park Players' fall show for 2016. This new version of the classic Jimmy Stewart film is actually a radio show. We will see the actors portray over 60 different voices Sound effects will be produced on stage. Singers will provide live commercials for Rinso laundry soap, Pabst beer, Lustre Creme shampoo, and Camel cigarettes.

The stage is dark. We hear the click of a switch and a wireless radio warms up.

The lights flicker and fade up. A brief montage of famous moments in radio follow: Sam Spade, Dagwood, Tarzan, The Lone Ranger, The Shadow.

Then the announcer: "Tonight we bring you one of this season's most inspiring and heartfelt stories. It's the drama of a typical American: it might be you…He dreams of glory. He lives in hope. He loves and doubts…Our story starts before the War, when life was normal, shortages were generally unknown, and simple luxuries like Soap and Cigarettes

were abundant. Soap and Cigarettes, the proud sponsor of this evening's presentation, brings you the story of George Bailey."

Producers Mary Davis and Archie Lynch are already putting together a team to recreate the radio magic of the 1940's. Auditions will be held in early September with the production in November. Everyone in the North Rosedale Park community is encouraged to participate on stage or off. Oh yes, it is a wonderful life.

Roman Gribbs • 1925-2016Roman Gribbs, one of North Rosedale Park’s most esteemed residents, passed away on April 5, 2016. Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor, Wayne County Sherriff, Mayor of the City of Detroit from 1970-74, Circuit Court judge, Michigan Court of Appeals – this was a man devoted to a life of public service in law. Just as he loved his city, he loved his neighborhood of North Rosedale Park, moving here in 1958 and becoming deeply imbedded in the Community House and the many neighborhood activities.

After his election as Mayor in 1969, he chose to continue living in North Rosedale Park, rather than moving his family to the Manoogian Mansion, wanting the

children to have as normal a life as possible. All five children walked to Cooke Elementary School from their home on Edinborough. According to daughter Carla Brisbois-Gribbs, “Our entire family developed life-long friends through the people we met here. Because of this, we have wonderful memories of growing up in North Rosedale Park – Creger’s for breakfast, Christ the King, June Day, parades, baseball (including mother/daughter games), and participating with Park Players at the Community House. My dad taught us how to ice skate in the park and then we’d run across the street to the Szymanski’s for hot chocolate to warm up!”

Mayor Gribbs lived in North Rosedale Park until the late 1990s when he and his second wife moved to Northville. He was so honored at being asked to be Grand Marshal at the June Day parade in 2002. It was a great celebration for him. We’re honored that the family has chosen The Legacy Project of North Rosedale Park for memorial contributions (www.nrpca.org).

North Rosedale Park eBlast Newsletteraka: Rosedale Tattler eBLAST EDITION

Last year marked the beginning of the Rosedale Tattler eBLAST EDITION. An electronic newsletter designed to supplement the printed version of the Tattler will be distributed via email. The eBLAST EDITION is not intended to replace the printed Tattler, but to provide vital and interesting news, information and reminders that sometimes miss the Tattler deadline (the 10th of each month). The eBlast should arrive in your email around the 3rd week of each month so as to meet this objective. In order to receive the eBlast you must be on the "list". However, it is really easy to sign up for the list by visiting the homepage of the North Rosedale Civic Association at http://NRPCA.org and pushing the big red subscribe button. Get yourself signed up today so

that you will be in the know! The exception to this requirement is that we have seeded the list with a number of email addresses that we have from our membership roster so your name may be on the list already. If you're not sure, you can still push the subscribe button as the same email address will not be signed up twice. If for some reason you do not wish to be subscribed, there will be a link at the bottom of each newsletter that may be used to unsubscribe. In case you want to be sure that this newsletter does not fall into your junk mail folder, be sure to just add the newsletter sender to your address book. You are encouraged to send articles for publication to the eBlast editor: [email protected].
