Marriage Moments "Vanity of vanities...All things are vanity "(Eccl 1: 2) Let's
face it, all of us are vain to some extent. We want to look
good to others. Perhaps one of the few people who will give
us honest feedback about our faults is your spouse. Share
one weakness that you observe in him/her today, but bal-
ance it with one thing that makes you proud of them. Hum-
bly accept both.
Parenting Pointers "Stop lying to one another." (Col 3:9) Usually people
don't lie because they are bad, evil people but ra-
ther because they are afraid or want to protect
themselves. Talk with your family about whether
there is a time when a lie is acceptable?
St. Augustine Church is pleased to offer a preventive health event. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregu-lar heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete.
There are three ways to register for this event and to re-ceive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle or text the word circle to 797979

The weekend of August
17/18, we will take up
the Peter’s Pence Col-
lection, which provides
Pope Francis with the
funds he needs to carry
out his charitable works
around the world. The
proceeds benefit our
brothers and sisters on
the margins of society,
including victims of
war, oppression, and
natural disasters. Please
be generous. For more
information, visit

pence.
Our weekly Bible Study begins again at St. Augustine and
Holy Name of Mary on Thursday, August 1, from 10:00
a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in St. Augustine’s Parish Center. There
is no material to purchase. Just bring your Bible if you have
one. We have extra bibles available. These reflective scrip-
ture sessions and shared prayer are a great way to do something positive for our trou-
bled world.
Each week will be an individual session so if you cannot attend every week, you are
still welcome any week that you can attend. Come and bring a friend! Let us listen to
God’s word and reflect upon his message together! If you have any questions, please
call Kathy Shannon at the parish offices 692-9009 EX.4. All are welcome.
Confirmation Candidates will begin final preparation for the Sacra-
ment with a meeting of Candidates and Parents on Sunday, August
18, 4-5PM in the Saint Augustine Parish Hall. In addition, those
who will be participating in the Confirmation Program are invited to
take part in our regular youth gatherings from 5-8 PM on Sunday
evenings. You may begin attending the Sunday meetings now. Call
Mike Luescher at 270-692-3019 ext. 5 for further information.
The National Catholic Youth Conference, NCYC, is a three-day event held every two years. Roughly 25,000 High School students will gather in Indianapolis for: music, pray-er, workshops, liturgy, Reconciliation and adoration, Mass, dancing and performances. We have a limited number of slots available so, search at YouTube; NCYC.info to see what this is all about, then register fast. Contact Mike Luescher at 270-692-3019 ext. 5 for more information or to register. Final signup, Tuesday, August 13.
Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Then he said to the crowd, ‘Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life
does not consist of possessions.’” Luke 12:15
In the realm of faith, material possessions area a false security. They often lead to a path that ends up placing
money as our first priority, while God, family, and church fall somewhere behind. The only real security in life
is to place our trust in God.
Advertisers of the Week . . . Did you know?
Our bulletin is provided to our parish by Diocesan at NO COST! The advertisers that you see on
the back of the bulletin purchase ads that cov-
er the cost of our bulletin. We are very grate-
ful to all of them. We encourage you to look at
the many advertisers in our bulletin. Patronize
their businesses and let them know you appre-
ciate their support.
