How to Overcome Satan
Satan is our greatest enemy. Peter warned all disci-ples instructing us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Our Lord also gave warning about the efforts of Satan, telling Peter. “And the Lord said, ‘Simon, Simon! Indeed, Sa-tan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat’” (Lk. 22:31). One of the interesting things about our Lord’s warning is the use of the plural word for “you.” Satan was not interested only in Peter. He desires each of us also. But it is possible for us to overcome Satan and his temptations. In writing to the seven churches of Asia (Revelation 2 and 3) Jesus promised certain blessings to each of those churches. The blessings were dependent upon their overcoming. Jesus’ blessings to each of these churches were: Ephesus – “To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Para-dise of God"' (Rev. 2:7b). Smyrna – “He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death” (Rev. 2:11b). Pergamos – “To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it"' (Rev. 2:17b). Thyatira – “And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations-- 27 'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's ves-sels' --as I also have received from My Father; 28 "and I will give him the morning star.” Sardis – “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels” (Rev. 3:5). Philadelphia – “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name” (Rev. 3:12). Laodicea – “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne” (Rev. 3:21). The blessings promised to those Christians who would overcome are truly great and will surely cause us to want to overcome, but how can we do that? With Satan walking about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may de-vour, how can we hope to overcome? The answer is given to us in Rev. 12:11 where we are told, “And they over-came him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” There are three things necessary to overcome – the blood of the Lamb; the word of their testimony and by not loving their lives to the death.

You all are so kind to me and my grandson,

much for all the beautiful greetings you sent me for
my birthday. And all the time I have been a mem-
ber, I love you all, Dot Mitchell
Be sure and thank the youth group and the chaperones for all the
long hours they put in Rockville, Maryland. All 42 worked tire-
lessly handing out brochures, washing cars and inviting people to
VBS and to hear Jordan. They worked from early morning to late
at night. The youngest campaigner was 4 months old and the old-
est was 80. Thank you to all who gave on mission Sunday. This is
the results of your generous giving. Mission trips like this one
edifies not only our youth group but small congregations like
Rockville.
