In addition to the training, the worship was excellent and the attendance was more than my church could bear, but that’s a good thing. It has been a long time since the Lord has spoken so directly and the Spirit has moved so freely in our conference. My prayer is that the momentum we are experiencing will contin- ue in our churches, not just as an impactful event, but become the standard for the Rocky Mountain Conference. I believe the 3M direc- tive (Missions, Mothering, Multi-culturalism) will be our golden ring catapulting the RMC into places and levels of ministry we have not seen before. We must work together in unity forming a bond of trust, dependency and interdependency setting the benchmark for all conferences to aspire to. Some of you might remember the email I sent to you before the Christmas season began. I felt the Lord speaking to me about Isaiah 54: 2- 3 telling us to enlarge the place of our tents, length- ening our cords and strengthening our stakes because God was getting ready to move in a mighty way. As it turns out, our leaders were meeting in Dallas and God was speak- ing to them as well. Our Presiding Bishop, Dr. Beacham, and a group of men spent time in prayer before the Lord seeking Him for direction for the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. They believe the Lord spoke to them and gave them seven core values for our denomination. I would like for you as a pastor to spend time studying this passage and the attached core values; using the seven Sundays before Annual Confer- ence to fast, and speak life and direction to your congregation. Could it be that the Art of Leadership 2013 was the launch pad for the Rocky Mountain Region to experience the mighty movement of the Holy Spirit? ¡WOW! “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited.”

For over one hundred years the Holy Spirit has spo-ken to the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. In each season the Spirit has called and energized the vision and mission for that time. Over the past thirty years the Spirit has prepared us through Target 2000, the Jerusalem Proclamation, Denominational Repen-tance, Mission 21, Denominational Covenant Renew-al, and Live-Move-Be.

All of these have led us to the threshold of the Im-peratives and Promises of Isaiah 54:2, 3. We believe that the Holy Spirit has spoken to IPHC Ministries concerning Seven Core Values that have shaped our calling and that the Spirit is using to further shape our calling.

1. We Pray . . . To Be People of the Word of God, the Bible.

The Bible is God’s Word of life to the world. Through the Bible we discern the voice and actions of God in human history. Through the Bible we learn Who we worship. From the worship of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we learn how to live as citizens of His Kingdom on earth.

2. We Pray . . . To Be Pentecostal People.

The Holy Spirit has called the IPHC to be a people who live and walk in the Spirit. We believe all the gifts of the Spirit are operative today. We believe the Holy Spirit empowers the Body of Christ corporately and individually to fulfill the mission of God in the earth.

3. We Pray . . . To Be Holy People.

We know that Holiness is beautiful. God’s church is sanctified by His Word and consecrated to live for His glory. We know that a redeemed, transformed charac-ter comes through the disciplines of the Word, prayer,

worship, community, and grace. We believe that God calls us to be holy in order to demonstrate to a lost world the glory of His grace, mercy, and love.

4. We Pray . . . That Christ’s Kingdom Expand.

We believe that the Kingdom of God is manifest wher-ever people live under His righteous reign. The IPHC is called to expand the borders of Christ’s kingdom through church planting, missions effort to those who have not heard around the globe, through local con-gregations serving their communities, and through our lives as we live holy and lovingly day by day.

5. We Pray . . . That Justice Be Established Through Us.

We believe that God’s people are called to be instru-ments of righteousness in the earth. We stand with the poor, the weak, and the oppressed and offer hope that brings dignity to each person. We stand with those who have no voice and intercede in their behalf. We will not be silent in the face of injustice whatever its source. We believe that justice and compassion extent the borders of Christ’s kingdom.

6. We Pray . . . That Future Generations Be AffirmedandEmpowered.

God is at work simultaneously in multiple genera-tions. We honor those who have gone, and are going, before us. We affirm and empower the generations that are following us in the faith. We welcome their voice and presence as prophetic anticipation of the future.

7. We Pray . . . That We Be a People of Radical Generosity.

Our generosity arises from a profound sense of God’s Kingdom. Thus, we understand our resources as gifts of God’s grace and we use them according to God’s standards. We do not live fearfully, based on our lack. We live gratefully based on God’s provision. We un-derstand that all our resources, whether material or spiritual, are gifts from a loving God. We commit our-selves to be obedient as tithers, joyful in giving, and generous in heart. Even as Christ gave to and for us, we give to and for others to the glory of God.

I am very proud of the efforts of the churches in the Rocky Mountain Conference in their missions support. Last year was a banner year for the RM-IPHC and our goal is to increase our giving in 2013. We are looking forwardto having Dr., Vijay Balla from Bangladesh againvisiting our conference this summer. PAUSE: THE SECRET TO A BETTER LIFE, ONE WORD AT A TIME

BY: Chris Maxwell

Chris Maxwell is no stranger to the rush of everyday life. He serves as campus pastor at Emmanuel College. His lat-est book, Pause: The Secret to a Better Life, One Word at a Time, invites readers to do exactly what the title says -- slow down, take a breath, and relish the moment. “I’ve been writing about that theme and speaking about it often. And, though the argument is in portions of my other books, we wanted this to be the key takeaway of Pause: God in the moment, God in the now, God in each event.

It is hard to believe it is March already! This month we celebrate Easter and with it the cornerstone of our faith: Christ's resurrection and victory over the grave. During this time of the year it is easy to think of Christ and his sacrifice, but what about those oth-er months when life is coming at you like "bugs on a windshield." Are you taking time daily to dive into his word or sit at his feet...or has the spirit of Martha overtaken your schedule. Take time this Spring to not only "stop and smell the roses" but also to be quite with God I promise you won't be disappointed!

Developing a church education program

Discipleship provides a bridge that connects the altar to the advancement of the believer. This is facilitated by informa-tion, motivation and application. Bridge building is hard work! So, in order to build a bridge a pastor needs to know how to motivate individuals to put in the effort that it will take to accomplish the task of moving their faith from the church seat to the office/school/market. This instruction time will help the pastor understand concepts of motivation in preaching. Also, churches need more than just motiva-tional messages. Motivational messages are important. Yet, without applicable teaching a church is incomplete in the area of discipleship. As a result, this teaching will help pas-tors to develop classes and programs for helping individuals move into ministry inside and outside the church. Finally, pastors will learn how to help congregation members in the area of understanding their faith. It’s one thing to know that faith does work and a whole new level to understand how it works. This teaching will show pastors how to help the local church community understand how their faith works. Thus, this class helps pastors learn how to build a bridge of discipleship

Session I: Motivation 4PM – 4:50 PM

In this session, pastors will be trained about the importance of motivation-al teaching through impacting sermons, careful counseling and coaching their calling. It all starts with preaching life-impacting sermons. One of the greatest keys in discipleship is preaching messages that impact peo-ple’s lives from week to week. They show up with a desire to be inspired. Pastors will be trained on how to make sure this area of ministry is done correctly. Next, pastors will be given the basics on counseling people in times of crisis. People need a proper time and place to sit down with a pastor and receive biblical and knowledgeable assistance in overcoming grief. Pastors will be trained how to help individuals in this area of min-istry. Finally, a key area of discipleship is coaching people to reach their life goals. This area of ministry takes a confident pastor who knows how to help people become their very best in life. This section along with the others will help pastors to develop in the area of motivating people to live life the way God intended them to live it.

Session II: Application 5PM – 5:50 PM

Discipleship is about motivation for living life in a powerful way. How-ever, if that is the only kind of discipleship people receive many people will live incomplete lives. People need to learn how to apply what they are motivated to do. In this session pastors will learn how to teach indi-viduals about how to apply the Bible to everyday life, getting assimilated into the life of the church and how to grow into leadership in the church. It starts by teaching people simple application principles. People need to know how to take life in the Spirit with them when they walk outside of the church. This class will teach the pastors on how to teach them to have portable faith. Next, this class will help pastors on how to get people assimilated into the life of the church by developing a class and a training program for them to get involved beyond just showing up. Finally, pastors will come to understand how to develop leaders. Practi-cal teaching on program development in these areas will be given during this session.

Session III: Information 6PM – 6:50 PM

In this session, pastors will be taught on the importance of training in-dividuals from a proper biblical perspective of understanding what hap-pened before that was written about back then and we apply to our lives now. Pastors will learn how to teach people about how the Lord did things before. In other words, how the Lord set faith teaching into place through Abraham. Pastors will learn about starting from this perspec-tive. Next, pastors will be trained about teaching on things that hap-pened back then; as in, when Paul and the other New Testament writers wrote. For example, Paul wrote about the faith of Abraham. He went on to show how that faith was still the proper biblical perceptive in the 1st century. Pastors will learn about teaching from this perspective as well. Finally, pastors will learn how to teach people to apply these biblical truths in a contemporary setting. Pastors will learn to answer the ques-tion of how to apply ancient truths in a postmodern world. Thus, they will learn to bridge truths of the Bible and bring them into our current times, without compromising the original meaning.

Churches Planting ChurchesAn IPHC Training Event in the Rocky Mountain Conference

CHURCHES PLANTING CHURCHESFor years, experts like Lyle Schaller and Peter Wagner, have stated that the best way to win the lost is to plant new churches. The most effective way to plant new churches is to mother a new church (plant a daughter church). New churches grow 10 times faster than established churches. Mother churches grow 3 times faster than regular churches. Need more be said?

This course focuses on churches planting churches. It is the sec-ond of the five courses in the DCPI set. It is the course that many pastors of established churches are afraid to take. Yet it is a course that will do them the most good. Women who are pregnant normally glow and are normally healthier. So it is with churches. The course is a three day course. As other DCPI courses, it involves lecture, interaction, small groups and a practical project. It is Biblical and based on the 12 Biblical principles for church planting. Here are some of the classes: sWhy Churches Planting Churches sAnswers to objections sHow to know when it is time sParenting mistakes to avoid sThe six steps of daughter planting sMother Pastor perspectiveThe IPHC is committed to Biblical Church Planting. The primary vehicle is through Mother Church Planting. The IPHC desires to plant daughter twin churches. During this course this process is presented. This is an amazing concept. It is a new one but it will work.

This course is not just theoretical or philosophical. The classes present a step by step process on how to plant a daughter church. This begins with prayer and ends with a success-ful daughter herself planting a new church. It is an amazing process. It is Biblical! This is how He builds His church. It is more than church addition, or even church multiplication.

BECOMING A MENTOROne of the 12 Biblical Church Planter’s Principles is the Barnabas Principle. This principle is the mentoring principle. Every church planter needs a mentor.

If churches are to be multiplied, then leaders must be multiplied and, therefore, equipped, challenged and released. This occurs best in a Paul and Barnabas type relationship (mentoring relationship). Such is the goal of this course – to establish mentors, pref-erably mother church mentors for new church pastors.

The course is a three day course. It has a typical DCPI approach – lecture, small group, interaction and practical project. Here is a sample listing of classes: sWhat is a mentor? sWhat a church planter needs! sThe art of mentoring s Leadership Development sCommunicating vision sWhat to do when the planter wants to quit sEffective mentoringThe average pastor is a loner. This is especially true for the church planter. He has no one to encourage him, especially a peer. He is easily discouraged and loses vision quickly. The hope of this course is to change this. Every church planter needs a mentor - someone who has gone where the church planter wants to go and is willing to help him get there. Such is the hope and prayer of this course.

The course is very practical. The correct theory is offered, yes; but even more so, the actual steps of the process are covered. The needs of an average church planting pastor are listed and discussed. The environment that this class hopes to create is an awesome one. We are “better together”. A threefold cord is not easily broken – God, the mentor and the new pastor. The body can be much healthier and more productive if this environment can be established. The goal of the IPHC is for every new church planter to have a mentor. So many more new souls can be discipled if this goal is reached. Pastors will be stronger and healthier. They can lead better. The Kingdom can and will prosper.(Plan for extra training time…)
