The Risk Assessment

Quiz

Last reviewed by DJB April 2012

Risk Assessments

•Generic

•Falling/tripping/standard equipment failure

•Generally determined by HSE/NGB

•Site Specific

•Actual, identifiable risks

•Written by the owners/providers of the wall/business

with advice from Technical staff

•Dynamic

•All the above and everything else

•Carried out by the delivery staff at all times

What you need to do is to scroll through each

picture one page at a time and see if you can

spot the dominant ‘risk’ related issue.

(Be warned – sometimes it is a good thing).

Then scroll to the next page and see if you were

right.

Often there are other issues as well and if I

have spotted them I might have listed them as

well.

No Mats

Also No safety barrier

In an ‘exposed’ location

Gap between footholds and

hand holds to limit climbers

from attempting to climb too

high

*This is a good thing – did you spot

it?

Where to begin? Apart from the

‘gap’ this is a poorly thought out

wall. Lets have no mats as the

dominant theme.

I’ll let you list the rest

Potential of someone getting

stuck at the top

Rocks at bottom

Climbing over the wall onto

pipes and balustrades

Gap at bottom between the matt

and wall

Otherwise quite a good facility

Pointy head bonky thing

Climbing onto building structure;

girders, lights etc

No safety flooring

No barrier against other gym users

Much too crowded an envirnment

Where to begin? Lets say no

barrier to unauthorised use

despite a very swanky sign

Climbing onto the vent

Swinging into the wall

Not a bad effort.

I’ll not be picky, its ok.

No safety flooring

The door

No barrier to unauthorised use

Mixed activity centres are lots of

fun but the net here could be an

issue (it isn’t as it happens, but

could be).

The main risk has been found to be

the little cave you cannot quite see

where kids often hide

Entrapment in the crack

But what a joy to behold

Helmets? Yes/No – there doesn’t

appear to be a clear policy. What

do you think?

It is also very busy – this would

strengthen the case for helmets I

would say

Splinters. Oooh

Icebergs

Hot beverages

I hope you enjoyed my little quiz
