Hello Rough Rider Families!

Our last meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, April 26th at noon in the Roosevelt library. Please join us then in electing our PTA board members for 2018-2019. Election candidates are:

President: Amanda Prince  Vice President: Cara McDonald Treasurer: Stephenie Hobbs  Secretary: Beth Burgess

We are also in need of a volunteer to organize the Rough Rider Rally, which takes place in early fall. If you are interested in this or any other committee chair position, please let me know!  

Next time you visit the school, check out the newly refurbished courtyard just off the library! Funds from the Rough Rider Run this year have been used to install new landscaping, ground cover, fencing and picnic tables, which will be delivered next month. We are excited about the many ways this space can be used by all! We are still working on getting large trees planted on the playground with the remainder of the Run money. Look for those to be planted this month or next.

Courtyard ImprovementsPTA would like to thank DWM Lawn and Fence, from whom we purchased the fence for the courtyard project, for donating their labor costs. If you need quality fence or lawn work done at reasonable prices, call Dillan at (405) 217-2886. We would also like to thank Marcum's Nursery for the landscaping work being done in the courtyard.

Treasurer’s NoteDuring our March general meeting, the PTA voted to add a few exciting things to our budget. The Teacher Incidental budget was raised by $5000.00 for the 2017-2018 school year, which we hope to implement next year as well. Also, an additional $5,000.00 is being added to the Professional Development budget, allowing the our teachers to take part in an exciting workshop. More details regarding the workshop will be presented at the April general meeting. Lastly, an additional $1,000.00 will be allocated to the soccer field for general upkeep. We hope to have some more information on a potential teachers' lounge remodel in our April meeting so make sure to attend!

Change for AutismRoosevelt’s annual “Change for Autism” competition drive buckets will be going out in April. The grade that raises the most money will win an amazing ice cream party hosted by the Change for Autism Team!

If you happen to be in the school, check out the students’ blue hand posters to show how they “High 5” Autism Awareness month. 

Thank you all in advance for giving autism a “High 5!” All funds raised stay right here in Roosevelt to support our students and their special needs.

5th Grade Talent ShowAttention all 5th graders: Talent show auditions will be on April 27th @3:00pm in Mrs. Combs room.  Please stop by the front office to pick up talent show flyer with details and a permission slip that will need a parent’s signature.  The permission slip will be due in the front office by April 19th@3pm. Please note that acts cannot exceed 2 minutes. *NO exceptions!*  

*The talent show will be on May 18th @1:45pm in the Roosevelt Gym*

Roosevelt Roughriders April 2018

Scholar Recognition The Scholar Recognition Committee will be selling Roosevelt Scholar yard signs in the front lobby before Rendezvous begins. These signs are available to student’s who have been named scholars only. The signs are $10 each and we accept cash and check.

5th Grade Party and RecognitionPlanning for the 5th grade end of year party and recognition are underway.  The committee has been meeting and coordinating theses

events.  Here is what we know so far: the party will be held at Bethel Annex.  We would like to have food, drinks, snow cones and

entertainment, such as music and a photo booth.  We will need bus transportation as well.  As far as plans for the recognition go, we would like to provide guests with refreshments (cookies , water and/or lemonade).  We would like to decorate the stage with balloons so it looks special and different from its everyday appearance.   After much thought and discussion, we’ve come up with a financial goal to achieve this.  If we are able to raise $2500, we can provide all this for our wonderful 5th graders.  

Here is a rough estimate (based on expenses from past) for costs:

Food $600 Drinks and snacks $200 Entertainment $700 Decorations for stage $300 Refreshments $300 Bus transportation to party $200 Miscellaneous $200

Teacher Appreciation With the teacher’s lounge decorated as Roo’s Pizza, our amazing teacher and staff were treated to a pizza, salad and dessert dinner during parent/teacher conferences. Thank you for being the best, teachers and staff!
