NPC AF-SIL06 is the new Nanto Paint® high performance anti-friction coating
with hovercraft effect for hulls applications.
Based on an epoxy-siloxane formulation, it incorporates a new anti-corrosion and anti-friction
technology, enhanced by the addition of functionalized nanoparticles. The product is
commercialized and integrated within the Nanto Paint® NPC 8000 series for yacht market.
Nanto Paint® is the unique brand, which combines traditional industrial coatings with the finest cutting-edge
nanotechnology.
The nanotechnology inside Nanto Paint® coatings is provided by Nanto Cleantech, a US based technology company which
owns more than 110 patents worldwide related to its innovative technologies for anticorrosion, fire retardant, antifouling
and anti-stick applications.

Nanto technology for anti-friction
Superhydrophobic surfaces (SHS) have been studied for
their potential for drag and skin friction reduction that
can possibly lead to greater speeds while reducing fuel
consumption.
Due to sophisticated micro-nano tailored hierarchical structure SHS
can form a stable layer of air between the hull's wall and the fluid.
Air-liquid layer reduces the solid-liquid interface and modify the
turbulence boundary layer, with very low drag that enables net drag
reduction.

Traditional foul release coatings are based on silicone, which
provides the anti-friction properties. The anti-friction technology
inside Nanto Paint® NPC AF-SIL06 is enhanced by the addition of
nanoparticles (NPs) which ensure surface stability, and at the same
time increase durability.
In particular, nanoclays are used as raw materials for:
• Reinforcement;
• Barrier effect improvement;
• Corrosion resistant increase;
• Antimicrobial and fouling retardant.
The incorporation of NPs can lead to a drag reduction from 5% to
36%. Friction tests have been performed by the Shenkar College of
Tel Aviv. This results in a reduction of fuel consumption and
increase of ship’s speed or decrease of the engine power.
