At just 15 years of age he served during theWar of 1812 as a private and drummer boy, later arriving inProvincetown in 1825 establishing himself as a sail-maker andwas among the early entrepreneurs who, during the mid-19th

century, transformed Provincetown into a preeminent port.Timothy’s business interests included salt works, ships’ ballastand the ownership of Ocean Hall (later known as the CentralHouse and now the Crown and Anchor), built for publicentertainments.
