What is the Remembrance Tree?
The Remembrance Tree is an opportunity
to remember your loved ones - be they de-
ceased, living away from home, in hospital
or just a gift with a difference - in a special
way this Christmas.
For just €10 you can add your light to the
tree. Each subsequent light will cost just
€5 e.g. one light €10, 2 lights €15, 3 lights
€20 etc.
Your light can now be purchased from
Scoil na
mBuachaillí or from any member of the Par-
ents’ Association. In December, the lights
will be on sale on the streets of Clonakilty.
Ribbons:
This year you can write the name of the per-
son you wish to remember on a ribbon which
will also be placed on the tree. There is no
extra charge for this.
What are the funds for?
The funds raised by this ven-
ture are being used for our new
extension (i.e. to pay back the

The final event of the Cork Schools’ Orienteering League was held in Tramore Val-
ley Park in Cork on Wed 23rd of October. Once again the school had a very successful
day out with the 5th Class boys coming second and the 6th Class winning. Maurice
Shanley and Tristan Walsh came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 6th Class competition
and Colm Brennan and Jamie Latimer did best in the fifth class section. The overall
league results for 2011 now show that both 5th and 6th classes were the overall win-
ners of the competition with Tristan Walsh achieving 2nd individual place. The boys
now look forward to Munster (Doneraile) and All Ireland (Kilkenny) competitions in
the New Tear. Well done to a great start to the year !!!!

A number of boys in the school are allergic to nuts and for
them any contact with nuts or products containing traces of
nuts can be dangerous for example NUTELLA!!!!
Please be aware of this when organising your child’s lunch
and if possible do not allow your child to bring anything
containing nuts to school. Your help in this matter is very
much appreciated.
p.s. Please give your children water to drink coming to
school - not sweet or fizzy drinks.
Thank you for your response for our appeal for Tennis Balls
(old) to put underneath the chairs in some of the classrooms.
However more are still needed and we would appreciate
them at any time.
Parents: now that children are back in school, please be vigilant and
check your child’s hair regularly for headlice.
If you find any please notify the school and we will send a note to
all parents in that class.

We have just been in- formed by the Dept. of
Education that the grant we get every year for Minor Works will no
longer be given to schools.
This grant has been used over the past few years to change the floor
covering in many of the classrooms, to floor and develop the up-
stairs in the school, to assist in the purchase of the photocopier etc.
The loss of this grant will make a huge difference to the upkeep of
the school in the coming years. We are extremely fortunate that we
have replaced the flat roof (last summer), windows and doors (the
summer before).
Please mention this to your local T.D. / Councillor the
next time you meet him. It seems to have gone unnoticed
in the media. This will impact on children, staff and par-
ents in the coming years.
