Perth has a number of distinct precincts to visit. The Central Business District, West Perth, East Perth, Northbridge and Kings Park, each with its own distinct character and offerings are within easy reach of the city centre.
VISIT NORTHBRIDGETo reach Northbridge take the free Blue CAT bus service, which runs from central Perth through Northbridge and back. Or take advantage of the many Transperth buses that run along Barrack Street to the north.
Northbridge has a colourful history marked by waves of immigrants who have made it the multicultural hub of WA. It is the place to enjoy any number of international cuisines, and is home to WA’s major cultural institutions.

East Perth is one of Perth’s oldest and recently revitalised precincts. The Perth Mint, the Catholic Cathedral of St Mary’s and Australia’s first purpose built fire station are among the historic buildings.
East Perth is split into two areas. Claisebrook Cove to the north and East Perth Central to the south.
CLAISEBROOK COVERoyal Street Town Centre (U5) and Claisebrook Cove (W3) are serviced by the yellow CAT bus, which sets off and terminates at Claisebrook train station, located only 700m from Royal Street Square and within the free transit zone.
Claisebrook CoveA landscaped area of beautiful homes and well-kept public gardens overlooking the Swan River. It is located only a few hundred metres from Royal Street Town Centre.
An easy starting point for exploring the Claisebrook Cove is to walk “The Greenway”, a pedestrian path that runs through the area from west to east that gives you a good feel for the area and an excellent opportunity to explore the public artwork.
Adjacent to the inlet, Mardalup Park and Victoria Gardens provide a great spot to enjoy a picnic or a take-away lunch. Children can enjoy the play area and basketball courts at Mardalup Park. Victoria

Gardens provides public barbeques and shaded benches.
Claisebrook has seen quite a transformation with many new restaurants and cafes opening up, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Royal Street Town Centre also offers a variety of restaurants and cafés, with dine-in and take-away options.
Access Claisebrook Cove by taking the Yellow CAT bus, alight at Stop 5 or 32. The Cove is a 10 minute walk from Claisebrook Station, also serviced by the Yellow CAT bus. Claisebrook Cove is a 2.5 km (40 min) walk from Central Perth (Forrest Place).

EAST PERTH CENTRALEast Perth Central runs east from the CBD to the Causeway and along the river front and includes Queen’s Gardens and Point Fraser. It is also home to the Perth Mint (S8). Established in 1899, it continues to refine most of Australia’s gold production. East Perth Central is serviced by the Red CAT bus. In addition there are many buses travelling along St. Georges Terrace & Adelaide Terrace which lie in the transit free zone.

Recently renovated, this imposing neo-Gothic church was consecrated in 1865. The site for the cathedral was included in the first plan of Perth in 1838.
Point Fraser and Heirisson Island Corner Riverside Drive and The Causeway (X11)
This artificial wetland, accessed by a series of interconnecting boardwalks, has won acclaim for its demonstration of water sensitive urban design. Point Fraser is a hub for riverside recreational activity and is serviced by the Red CAT bus, stop 5. It is a 750m walk through Ozone reserve to the information point.
The Point Fraser interpretive walk allows visitors to gain insight into the significance of the site from an environmental, historical and Indigenous perspective. The area boasts an interpretation

booth, toilets and a children’s playscape. It is a good place for a picnic or bbq lunch with family and friends. With cycle hire and an extensive network of bicycle paths, cycling provides a great way to explore the Swan River.
Queens Gardens (Map Ref W8)
Corner of Hay Street & Plain Street, East Perth
The main features of this beautiful garden include lakes filled with massed displays of flowers. Queens Gardens is situated close to the Rod Evans Community Centre and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) Museum, open 10am-3pm Monday to Friday (entry fees apply).
Cheap Eats in East Perth CentralHay Street Town Centre offers a variety of cafés and takeaways. It is serviced by the Red Cat bus, stop 10. Queens Gardens is a great place to enjoy your take-away or picnic lunch, while the playground at the Rod Evans Centre is a good spot to stop with the children.

VISIT KINGS PARK & BOTANICAL GARDENS

Located on Mt Eliza at the western end of the city, Kings Park offers a wide range of experiences over its 400 hectares. A series of bush trails, picnic spots, cafés and children’s playgrounds are found throughout the park.
A number of significant memorials are located within the parklands. One feature of the park is the elevated Federation Walkway which extends 620 metres through the Botanic Garden along a combination of on-ground pathways and a spectacular elevated 52 m glass and steel arched bridge suspended amongst a canopy of tall eucalypts.
Kings Park offers a calendar of events throughout the year including movies, plays and concerts during the summer. The Kings Park Visitor Centre on Fraser Avenue can provide further information.
Free guided walks conducted by Kings Park Volunteer Guides set off from the front of Aspects of Kings Park in Fraser Ave daily at 10am, 12pm and 2pm. The 12pm walk is conducted from 1 September to 30 June only.
